Let’s say I have a 48 hour print and during the first hour I notice that I am having a problem with one of the slots on the AMS, for example slot 3 failed to pull back… My thought was to cut the filament in the AMS, so as it printed the printer would display an out of filament message. I can then load the same roll in a different slot and failover to that slot? Would that work?
I know there is auto-refill, which works with the same filament and color I believe. My question is can this be wired up mid-print or once the print is in process this won’t work?
I really need to land on one of the AMS fixes and get that done…
As I understand it, needs to know a) its on (auto refill) and b) understrand all the slot \ failament types and whats the “backup slot” etc, so cant really do it “mid print”.
Some thinking ahead, I guess turn it on now ASAP and should work in future, if it not a full on jam … and you cut the filament and it hits the run out sensor, and all the filaments are configured to be the SAME and the AMS things the SLOTS are the same at the time you “Sent it”- in theory should work.
Might get a bit wonky if its a Bambu roll with RFID that records? usage - not sure how smart that part is, there is options for that as well.
But, if your not already printing that 48hr, i would just do a simple test now
- leave the setting off- try print , cut the filament etc - see what it says
- then reset print job, turn on the AMS setting , configure a backup filament slot all thje same - “send it”, wait to a few layers, cut the first spool filament (cleanly… dont rush it or make a jam)
- watch what happens…

You have to configure this in the slicer at print start.
In the below example the same filament is in slot 1 and 2, and 3 and 4.
When slot 1 is running empty it will continue to slot 2, same for slot 3 switching over to slot 4.
