I’ve created a flat coaster with text. The text has been painted a contrasting colour in BS. eg: White coaster base with red text “My Beer”
Now I want to print a PETG translucent (clear) layer over this coaster to protect it better.
I’ve followed a dozen suggestions but when I try this, upon slicing BS removes the text and just prints one object with the other on top, but the text has gone. Never printed.
As though the slicer has deduced the text won’t be visible anyway as it is now covered. BS doesn’t seem to know the top layer is transparent even though I have selected BS PETG Translucent filament.
Has anyone ever printed a transparent layer over an object containing text successfully?
I’ll appreciate any suggestions if you have done this already!
And A Happy New 3D Year 2025!
[PS I thought I had posted this yesterday but it’s disappeared]
I would try printing a few test pieces. I expect the slicer does not ‘print’ any thing totally inside an object. In that case, you may need to get into the raw g-code, or try the pause on the layer slider. If you have access to the cad, then possible draw small holes from the bottom to each letter. The holes will not print (but the walls will), and the slicer will think the lettering is on the outside. There is probably a better answer.
I’m trying to do something similar
Essentially, I’m printing a black PETG layer, then a translucent PETG layer, then a black PETG layer and so on. I’ve been following the following settings for both layers to test:
(Can’t post links yet) If you search Rygar1432 “how to print glass” , you’ll find the settings Rygar1432 used to get impressive clarity.
I haven’t gotten it to be grass-like yet. But, I’ll post my settings when I figure it out.
