How to set filament for supports?

Hello,

so I got my first model with some overhangs for which Bambu Studio is claiming I should use supports. Fine, time to learn something new

So I loaded my “model PLA” into slot 1 of the AMS and the “support PLA” (which came with the printer) to slot 2. Both are recognised correctly by the AMS.

Then I “enabled support” in Studio.

My idea was that the supports are printed with the regular PLA (= Support base), but the connections to the model are printed with the Support-PLA (= Support interface).

But in Studio, I can only choose:

  • Filament for Support base: Default or 1-PLA
  • Filament for Support interface: Default or 1-PLA

Why am I not able to choose slot 2? Or is “Default” equal to slot 2? Or am I getting the idea of support / base / interface totally wrong?

Ah found it, you have to manually add a 2nd filament to Studio - thought the data would be taken from the AMS.

The data ‘can’ (I would advise against it for different reasons) be sync’ed with AMS. But this is something you have to push manually.

Thanks a lot, really didn’t notice that until now.

Hi there, follow up question (I wasn’t able to find how to post new questions lol) on supports topic. Does anyone know if you MUST use actual support material (like PLA SUP) to create the supports? My issue is that when I try to print supports with the same material for supports and the model, the supports are impossible to remove. Please help?

Mit der Baumstruktur sollte es gehen. Am Anschluss auf 1mm reduzieren!

I have both printed models with Sup PLA and printed supports with Basic PLA. if you use Basic PLA as supports, slim trees are easier to remove. The Sup PLA just bonds poorly, which makes removal even easier, but do not use it as the primary print material. It flakes, creates bad overhangs even with support, etc.

You can also play a little with the interface distance to the model. That can make an important difference.

How do you do that? Can you do it on the machine screen itself ?
