I am new to Bambu, and almost as new to 3D printing. I’ve only had my P1S for a few weeks.
I have both .4mm and .2mm nozzles. I’ve spent most of the past couple of weeks learning all of the settings and functionality of the printer using the .4mm nozzle. I just installed the .2mm nozzle tonight to try to get a handle on that.
The problem is that only one of my filament profiles are available for it. The rest only show up with the .4mm nozzle. Ok, they have to be set to be available to other nozzles… but how?
I’ve tried creating new in order to copy over my existing profiles, but creating a new filament for the .2mm nozzle only lets me copy from existing .2mm profiles.
I’ve looked to try to find a way to add additional nozzles to my existing filament profiles, but I can’t find a way. I really don’t want to have to copy every one of my profiles by hand and reenter them.
I’ve been beating my head against this for two hours straight. I am loving Studio, but the way the profiles nest (what is stored under which profile) has been a real headache.
How to I solve this?
/edit - examples:
This one shows both nozzles. I can select it with either nozzle active.
This one, however, only lists the .4mm, and I can’t figure out any way to add the .2mm to it.
When you create a custom filament, you select both “printers” (i.e., nozzle sizes); thus, it is currently available for both.
In the other case, you only selected one nozzle size.
You need to add a new preset to make a custom filament available for a different nozzle size. For that purpose, use the “add preset button” shown in the “Edit Filament” PrintScreen to add a new preset to an existing custom filament.
What I do is go to “C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\user\default\filament\base” for LAN Only Mode or “C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\user\RANDOM NUMBER\filament\base” for cloud mode and copy my xxx@Bambu Lab P1S 0.4 nozzle.json presets and rename them xxx@Bambu Lab 0.2 nozzle.json. I open the .json in notepad and rename all instances of xxx@Bambu Lab 0.4 nozzle in it to xxx@Bambu Lab 0.2 nozzle and save it.
This is on Windows, I don’t know what the path is on mac if that’s what you use.
When you open Bambu Studio it will synchronize and all the presets will now be available both for 0.4 and 0.2 nozzle. You will now have to adjust the 0.2 nozzle presets of course in bambu studio, in particular for the max volumetric speed that should be a lot lower.
There may be an easiest way though as I noticed that when you create a new preset you can attach it to several pre-defined printers (which was may be what you did for your Elegoo filament) but I did not find how to do it after the fact when the preset is already created for one printer.
That I did not know. This thing didn’t come with a manual - I wasn’t even aware that it was something I needed to take into account. Some research shows that it’s around 1/10 of the .4mm speed, which is significant.
Just take a look at the bambu filament preset for both 0.4 and 0.2 nozzle for the different type of filament you use and use Bambu values as a starting point.
That’s not possible within BambuStudio.
Even when creating a new filament, where you may set presets for each printer and nozzle, you are limited to the available ones.
If this change is crucial, you may try the @philch solution (I have never tried it).
Alternatively, you can export your custom presets to the hard drive and make identical code replacements. Afterwards, you reverse the process and import. The advantage is that any error will be noticed when importing.
If there are many presets, a script may be helpful.
Note that making your preset compatible with all printers (aka nozzle sizes) is possible without creating new ones. Nevertheless, the effect of changing the settings will be noticed in all nozzles. Besides the maximum volumetric speed, the PA and flow rates differ.
