How transparent is transparent PC?

Looking to print some see-through parts that need to have >100C softening temp, considering Bambu PC transparent. Does anyone have experience with this filament? How see-through is it when the standard recommendations for transparency are followed (slow speed/large nozzle dia)? Is there any way to smooth it at home (without highly toxic solvents) like ABS? Does annealing it help with transparency at all?

I’ve seen some guys in the “print your own RC airplane” forum threads who’ve used this stuff for aircraft canopies and their results seem pretty good. The trick is, the plastic can be smoothed with IPA, and that significantly increases clarity.

Pick the Clear one, obviously.

PolySmooth has a softening temp of 70C so unfortunately that won’t work.

I found some good info for transparent ABS printing, might work but requires extremely slow speeds. I’d really like to see some transparent Bambu PC prints if anyone has experimented with it, maybe it’s transparent enough for what I’m doing. PC is preferable to ABS as would have higher margin wrt temps.

I have printed with Taulman3D (now Braskem) T-Glase PETT filament. It can print very smooth and clear, but for best results use big nozzles, print slowly, and not too many layers.

T-Glase has a softening temperature of 76C so unfortunately this filament wouldn’t work as is. I could explore annealing it, provided it’s transparent enough to be used.

Do you have some examples of the prints you’ve done with T-Glase by any chance, to gauge how transparent it is? Anything flat, around 2-3mm thickness?

Sorry, none of the prints I have would be useful to you as I was not going for a glass-like appearance. It is very transparent as a filament, though. Check out Optically transparent 3D prints with Taulman3D’s T-Glase! #Filaween - YouTube

You could always print a mold/buck with a high temp filament and vacuum form a sheet of PC over it or squeeze a hot sheet between two mold halves to achieve the shape and clarity you want.
