I had started down the road of HSW and creating some drawers and hangers for my stuff, but it seems like all I see on Makersworld is stuff for skadis. Is skadis better than HSW and should I shift to skadis or am I just not looking in the right places. I get that skadis you can buy the plates at ikea is that the only advantage over HSW? more universal and can be 3d printed?
You might wish to cite some examples.
I’m guessing HSW means Howard’s Storage World, but, we shouldn’t have to guess. We don’t have that in the U.K. for example.

Sorry thought it was more readily known than it is maybe. Honeycomb storage wall is a storage system that is fully 3d printable. created by RostaP a couple years ago.
I am guessing HSW is the honeycomb system HSW Honeycomb Storage Wall - KYZ | Collection - MakerWorld
I did not try it, just because I already had Skadis around, so it was natural for me to design models for Skadis, instead of starting from the HSW boards.
OP already said that it is, yes.
from how I see it, skadis makes more financial sense, the boards are quite inexpensive, you’ll spend more printing the base board than buying it, so having the baseboard and printing only attachments makes more sense
Skadis is more expensive and slower to print compared to HSW. HSW is ~100g @ 2.4 hours on a P1S for a 240x240 piece while Skadis takes ~179g @ 4hours for the same size. So per roll of filament, you can print get over 6 sqf of wall on HSW.
The question is - do you want fully printable not off-the-shelf or possibly off-the-shelf solution?
Skadis is IKEA’s creation I dunno how it got so popular, but I guess it’s cheap and comes with enough accessories. It’s a variation of standard pegboard made very not-standard. Printing skadis panels makes very little sense - it’s almost flat panel of plastic with couple holes.
There are other non-printed solutions that IMO make more sense, standard pegboard being one of them. Before I had 3D printer I went with Slatwall due to it’s carrying capacity and accessories from retail world.
Now in terms of 3D printed walls and storage solutions, I lean towards Multiboard.
Read again what I wrote, you don’t print the skadis board, only the components
OK i see Skadis boards from ikea are $28 for 30"x22" only slightly more expensive than what you could print it for not valuing print time for anything. I was looking at amazon where it was $50 for that same board. I am 3 hours from the closest Ikea.
Honeycomb storage wall is not weight bearing, and cannot be used for heavy items.
Multiboard is a superior product to the Ikea one, but also harder to manufacture and obtain: What is the printing speed of a van full of manufactured product travelling at 100 kph, compared to an X1 Carbon with a fancy nozzle?
I’m a Multiboard user. It’s a great system. Part of my uploads are compatible with Multiboard as I upload them after designing for my own use.
The posibility of design any shaped tyle enables you to spread it in any surface, independently of the size.
Love it.
I should take a look at that multiboard
I went Skadis mostly as it meant a day out at IKEA for the missus and I. That and I’m too lazy to print all the bits I wanted so I bought a few trays and cups while I was at it.
Below is a corner of my mini Man Cave (now working on a DENON DN-790R cassette deck).
Most of the hooks, supports, attachments… are my designs and they are available in my MW account.
I am probably going to switch to multiboard… Although I have probably used 6 or 7 rolls on HSW and accessories lol. I don’t want to continue to invest in an inferior product… I am wanting to cover my garage workspace in it and probably only a 1/4 of the way there with that 6-7 rolls.
I’m using HSW and Multiboard and like both of them. Have lots of holders and shelving for each system, can be foud under my MW account. In my opinion both of them are quite similar, but Multiboard is a bit easier to manage space. Small suggestion… probably making panels and Snaps/Inserts out of PETG or any other durable material is very recommended. I have done all of them with Bambu PLA basic and severaL PLA+ and after a while those fittings become quite loose.
At $27 a board I don’t think so
Too all interested in a wall storage system, take a look at openGrid too. I found Multiboard too much restrictive license wise.
OpenGrid is CC BY, Mulitboard has weird ass-licence that is theoretically “allow remix” but nothing commercial unless supporter…
Methinks multiboard is hindered by it’s licence and it’s core control making it weird to extend.
