Huge PETG bed adhesion differences due to PETG color variants, how come?

As a newbie I was ignorant of the possible PETG adhesion issues…

So my first PETG prints were without problems… I could remove the models with relative ease from the standard textured PEI plate. (WHITE Creality PETG)

The GRAY Bambu PETG Basic was also OK, no issues so I was happy to print the other models in a different color but then…

The Bambu PETG Basic PINE GREEN was a nightmare… I could not get the models of the plate without destroying them…

The glue stick came to the rescue but apparently the COLOR is a big factor?

I guess I am stuck (pun intended) with the glue stick forever now?
Not a big deal but application is a bit of an issue because the way I apply it, WILL BE VISIBLE in the texture of the printed model!

Any tips and or tricks I can use??

There are differences between colors but another possible cause is just different spools that may have different moisture contents. High moisture can also cause bed adhesion issues.

Changed - I apologize. I was reading your post in a distracting environment and read it the wrong way.

PEI plates can grip things hard when new and there are tricks to get models to release. One is glue. It acts as much like a release agent as it does helping prints stick down. And the glue sticks and liquid glue are water soluble so if something doesn’t want to come free, warm water can help but be mindful of how warm.

Another is to let the print and plate cool before you try and separate them. Some even putting them in the fridge or freezer a bit can help get them to separate.

But apologies. My bad. Went the wrong way.

PETG drove me nuts, with stringing, blobs, and adhesion problems until I realized it requires drying. I started drying all filaments as soon as I opened the bag (except, sometimes, PLA).

I use glue on PEI plates for all filaments except PLA.

I make my own liquid glue from IPA and glue sticks. When sprayed thickly and allowed to level out as it dries, it leaves almost no marks on smooth plates and none on textured plates.

oooh, that may be the explanation…! The PINE GREEN filament was dried in my Creality dryer, the others NOT, I used them right out of the packaging…

wow, thanks for the liquid glue thread…! I guess I have to get used to the use of the glue as releasing agent. I tried it with glue stick and it does work very good…

It may have helped it stick harder. Could be. But my original answer was the wrong advice. I was distracted and in a hurry and read it the wrong way. The answer was good but not for your situation. Sorry about that.

In the case of stuff sticking too hard, glue is one of the better answers. About drying, IMO you always want to use dry filament since it gives you more uniform results.

I modified my answer above with more info.

And with the textured PEI, they’ll lose that strong grip in time and then the glue is necessary to keep models pinned down. Or you get new or other plates. But mine have lost their native grip and using glue keeps them working. But worthless now without glue. When that happens, there are also ways to abrade the surface lightly to get grip back but I just use glue.

I want to thank you very much for your additional insights, they are so helpful!

Today I had much succes in applying the glue with great result every time. And I even found that I can re-use the plate several times before needing to clean and apply a new layer of glue. (I read that somewhere here on this forum.)

Good advice from you to always dry the PETG before use, I will do that as also recommended by Bambu.

So I learned a lot in a short time thanks to you and other helpful people on this forum.
Very much appreciated!

That was Ikraus on always drying PETG but I agree. It is a problem filament for many. And glad the glue is working for you. When my PEI plates were new it was kind of fun seeing stuff stuck down hard slide right off when cool. But now it’s not always reliable things will stick but glue keeps them working.

But the counter argument is obviously the extra work and small expense. And stuff doesn’t just slide off.
