Hygrometer that ready between 20% and 10%

So far I have bought 6 hygrometers, the round ones, from Amazon to use in dry boxes but all of them count down 23%, 22%, 21%, 20%, 10%. I’ve seen you tube videos and images in the AMS pods make for example where the meters are displaying the steps between 10% and 20%. Rather than randomly buying for all the suppliers on Amazon or elsewhere does anyone have a link to one that works?

Do you mean the percentage lowered after installing them in the dry boxes with silica gel and then placing them in an AMS?

If so, that is normal and to be expected.

Inside the AMS, combined with new (or refreshed) silica gel, it is much drier than the surrounding ambient moisture levels.

Over time, the efficiency of the silica will deteriorate, and the percentage will increase. At some point, you will need to recharge the silica (heating it to dry it out).

Most of the round hydrometers are made by a single company or based on an identical design. They are simple in design and, as such, are mass-produced to sell them cheaply.

Paul is looking for ones that show the percentages between 20% and 10%. The ones he has trickle down normally but when at 20% it only jumps straight to 10% instead of showing 19,18,17 etc.

I use BTH01 Bluetooth thermo-hygrometers from AliExpress. They go down to 0% continuously and have been within a few % compared to a much more expensive hygrometer. I throw one into every filament bag and each AMS and use a tuya bluetooth bridge to connect them to the smart life app.
I don’t like that it is a chinese smart home cloud. But it works perfectly, with popup messages on the phone when humidity exceeds a threshold. That is really comfortable.

There is also an alternative firmware that is open source and can connect to home assistant. But up to now my motivation wasn’t high enough to the time for switching.

That particular one has worse battery life, but they have other ones.

I don’t have any I can suggest that work, I bought four of them from Bambu Lab and they appear to do the same thing.

Mine seem to be stuck on 10% even though my AMS2 Pro is showing 9% on one of them. The other AMS is showing 10% so they be be accurate at 10% ish, but my AMS’s both have jumped to 12-14% when I open them to change a spool yet the round hygrometers never go above 10%.

All that to say I wouldn’t buy the ones from Bambu either. Just thought I’d mention it in case you saw them there and might think they’d be reasonably accurate like I did.

Exactly right. It seems to be completely hit and miss on getting the ones that display the intermediate steps. I’m not concerned about the accuracy as they are all +/-5% but it would be nice to know if it is going up rather than getting the big jump when it changes to 20%

I’ve done a bit more searching and following a link on a US YouTube I see that the back of the hygrometer he used has two switches, one for C/F and one for On/Off. All the ones I have have a single multifunction button. I also see that the range is stated as 10 to 99% in the listing. The ones I have bought actually state 20 to 99% when you manage to find the spec in the images… I’ve just ordered some from UK Amazon that have separate on/off and temperature buttons which state 10 to 99%. Let’s see what I get this time.

All mine have C/F switch and all read per 1° increment.

The hydrometers arrived today and they read 21, 20, 19, 18, 17, … It seems the trick is to ensure they state 10-90%, rather than 20-90% and an additional clue is that they don’t have the multi function on/off/C/F button. For those interested these are the ones that show the steps between 10 and 20% https://amzn.eu/d/67nAJUp
