Hello.
Ich own an x1c and already downloaded a few parts from makersworld.
I also created some things that I think could be interesting for others and would like to share them here. So I wanted to ask if there is anything i should pay attention to when I upload stuff?
- Should I only upload the 3mf file?
- Should I include any special information regarding the print settings (I am not a pro and maybe some of my settings are not the best!)
- Anything else that could be important?
Greetings
Sebastian
If you have designed something you think the community could benefit from, yes, share it.
Things to consider:
- Provide a 3mf if you have created one, ideally that you have tested works by actually printing it
- Take at least one photo of your printed work as evidence of your profile working
- You do not need to detail all the print settings unless you did something out of the ordinary you wish to draw people’s attention to, the settings are in the profile for people to find, your changes show up in different colours
- Examples of things to highlight would be “I’ve inserted a pause at layers 26 & 52”, “do NOT turn on the fan or it will fail”.
- If your just changing infill type or wall counts, no need to mention that unless you provide multiple print profile where they are the differentiators
- Your 3mf is used to start the model creation on the Maker World site, it is ALSO used as the first print profile, that can be confusing at first
- You can add subsequent print profiles for the same model if you have them (different scaled versions or single vs AMS versions as examples) once your model has been verified
- Verification can take less than a minute or 30 minutes if the servers are busy, often around a minute or less, the same with print profiles.
- Write some content to explain what your model does, who can use it, explain any non-printed parts or assembly instructions.
- Try to use some formatting if possible, headings and bullets help break up lots of text and make instructions easier to read (like this list)
- Always provide the photo evidence I spoke of, at least one in the model page and at least one in the profile page, they can be the same
- Your model may benefit from multiple photos of seeing different angles helps the user understand what it is or does better
- If you have more than one profile, differentiate them with a different photo so the user can see the difference, single colour photo and AMS photo for example
- You can edit everything afterwards if you forgot something, realise a mistake or think of a better way to promote your work
- You do not need professional equipment or skills for the photos, just decent light.
- All images and photos should be 4:3 ratio, turn the photo landscape (not selfie style if you’re too young to understand landscape)
- Don’t add anything boring that you wouldn’t use yourself
- My first upload was a ceiling vent for my own conservatory, not going to be popular, but, that doesn’t mean boring and a couple of others benefited from it
- Group like models together in public collections, if you add several eggs with legs models, add each to a collection called “Eggs with Legs” and put a link in the content of each model pointing to the collection so they can find all the others
Have fun otherwise it’s not worth it.

Maybe a bit more information about 3mf:
An STL file only contains the model.
A 3mf file is more versatile: It usually contains the model, but depending on the program creating it, it can additionally contain print settings, sliced GCODE, even multiple models on multiple plates, and arbitrary other data (it’s actually a ZIP file).
For Makerworld, 3mf files made by the Bambu Studio slicer (release version) are especially relevant, as they usually contain print settings (“print profile”) for Bambu printers, so a user doesn’t need to take care of these and just hit the print button.
If you made your 3mf with Bambu slicer, then this 3mf actually is all you need to upload (well, at least one photo, too), and it doubles a print profile. I usually also upload a bare STL for people who don’t use a program that understands (Bambu’s) 3mf (though I don’t know what program doesn’t).
If you made your 3mf with a different program or slicer (even a beta version of Bambu Studio), it does not work as print profile.
Thinking again, I probably just unnecessarily explained things you already knew, sorry.

I just tried to upload a profile with a print and received a message that it failed due to not passing the slicing test in Bambu Studio even though I have sliced it Bambu Studio and posted a picture of the actual print I did on my X1C. It does take a long time to slice, is there anything I can do to get it posted. I have posted the photo on a Bambu FB group and have had people asking about it. So I am trying to get this uploaded. Thanks.
This should be a new post of your own, but, as you are new here (welcome) I suspect you do not yet have the privileges which come after using the forum for a while.
This will mean you fail to get many responses.
The actual error message and where you received it would be helpful. I will make a couple of guesses though.
As you say you provided a photo, I assume you are getting the error message when you try to upload a new model into MakerWorld (MW) and are being told the file you sliced using BS without error, is being rejected due to a problem.
Things to test.
- When you upload to MW, set the Public/Private question to PRIVATE. This way, your tests will not be shown to anyone else until you have solved the problem.
- You said the model took a long time to slice, assuming there is more than one distinct model on the plate, only leave one model on the plate and try uploading that.
- If you have empty plates in the Bambu Studio (BS) file, delete them, only ever upload BS files without any empty plates.
- For testing purposes; if you have multiple plates only upload one plate.
The objective here is to rule out problems.
Once you have successfully uploaded one part of your model, you can add another part and try again, this will be achieved by editing the successful entry, do NOT keep uploading tests.
If you only have one model in the BS file, the model itself may have an error.

Hiya, just a quick question from newbie to makersworld. I’ve just uploaded and published a model. As I’d like to publish another, seems like the ability to do this is not possible. Are we only allowed to publish 1 model a day or can you please point me to the guideline for this as I definitely have missed it if there’s one. Thanks
Afaik you can post multiple. I did two halloween models yesterday and it let me. Maybe it’s a restriction on newer accounts?
