I have holes at same spot on my prints

Hey!

I bought a P1S about a week ago. The first prints was perfect, but over the past few days, I’ve started having issues. There are holes in the last layers, and the strange part is that the holes appear in the exact same spot
on every print. Do you have any idea what the issue could be?

All my settings are by default, its the default benchy file in the p1s and I tried to re calibrate and factory reset.

Thanks!

Have you dried your filament out recently?

You could have some moisture creep in the filament.

That is very strange that it happens in the same spot. My guess is that it could be a partial clog. That could cause the holes to showup with a particular movement of the extruder, kind-of like the way dichromatic filament causes different colors to showup from various angles.

Kudos for making the effort to calibrate but…

Listen to the Oracle!!!

One cannot calibrate bad filament. Even if this came right out of the shrink wrap, you have to assume that it wasn’t dried properly.

Example with PC filament but the same results for other filaments too, even PLA. Dry filament is on the right.

DIY filament dryer.

Since you only took delivery of the P1S, I am going to assume that you don’t have a drier yet. You can dry it in the oven but there is an easier method that I’ve verified works perfectly. Use the filament box it came in. Here’s a video on that. Trust me, it works.

Just a couple of tips.

  • Do not set a plastic filament spool directly on the plate, use a small spacer of any type. Even small strips of cardboard just 4mm thick will do the job.
  • Do not go above the recommended drying temps.
  • This method works best if you flip the filament halfway through the drying cycle.

Early on, I went as far as to add a USB fan and hygrometer. This worked quite well.

Here’s the Bambu filament guide and look in section 3 for drying time recommendations.

You can also use your kitchen oven but keep an eye on it Otherwise you could see this:

The only things that I can imagine to add to the key points from @MalcTheOracle and @Olias is background to their sage advise:

  • New filament can be quite wet. Filament drawers do not gain anything by performing expensive drying on their water cooled products.
  • When facing issues, you need to have a known system to find the root cause. So always dry the filament and do the recommended machine maintenance for troubleshooting. It may not be related to the issue, no matter what it is, but you need to rule out the usual suspects.

I found the problem. During one of my last prints before the issue started, it likely failed due to moisture, which affected the nozzle as shown in the picture.

I just changed the nozzle, and now everything is perfect.

Thanks to everyone for the other tips!

Was there any obstruction in the path of the filament?

Good catch.

It must have hit the exact angle at those spots in the travel path that caused the issue to only occur where you indicated.
