I just created First Real 3D Printed Mystery Box!

An AI generated hueforge of an articulated Christmas Roctobenchy! We’ll never know though, the profile got taken down and since the model wasn’t uploaded separately you can’t actually print it anymore :sob:

i still have the profile in cache… but you are not missing much, trust me

Hopefully he pulled it before Bambu. Violations can get punished pretty hard in the exclusive program.

Nice Sleigh and Reindeer animated model, btw. :+1:

Bambu removed it. And one more profile.

Rest assured that me, personally, didn’t report it

Did they dock you points when they pulled it?

Probably yes. I have not find it in history. But found that other model’s profile with wrong image was removed with Points revoked due to Print Profile violation.

Some people just don’t have a sense of humor or holiday spirit. While it’s something I wouldn’t have printed I thought it was kinda clever/funny.

It’s not about a sense of humor, it’s about trying to get downloads by not telling people what’s inside. They download the STL and look inside, see it’s not worth printing, but the model uploader still gets points.

It’s the rules of MakerWorld, which we all have to abide by since it is an incentivized program. If you don’t like it, you can appeal to MakerWorld or go somewhere else. To be harsh, a lot of us work dang hard to comply and remain in compliance and it is a bit of a slap in the face what you’re proposing here, and if it were to even be allowed - which expect that it won’t - would lead to even more rampant AI generated garbage models, and possibly offensive and even illegal prints in some nations, not to mention the disappointment, wasted filament, and overall disregard for MakerWorld’s guidelines. Why so serious? why so thoughtless?

Sorry, like a lot of us, I’ve had my fair share of getting my models/profiles taken down, even after spending days, weeks, months on them, perfecting print profiles, researching competing designs, making sure I’m not stealing anyone’s ideas, crediting remix and inspiration sources, and interacting with users who need help, and so this flippant disregard for all of it got under my skin. We have enough people on here telling us to pound sand over their ai generated designs collecting thousands of boosts, but @gobotoru isn’t one of those, so I sincerely apologize for my tempered response, you didn’t deserve that. I hope the idea pans out in such a way that it is successful. Here’s an idea: have the mystery be for the gift recipient and not for the downloader.

As an aside, toybox.com does mystery prints, exclusives, and sells access to user-generated content. I didn’t see but I imagine that like MW here they reward creators who post stuff. But this is official it seems.

The more I think about it, the more I want to see a new tier of models on MW. Create a 3rd tier below the current two tiers (regular and Exclusive). In this new tier, there are no requirements of photos, print profiles, or any rules other than the models have to be somewhat 3D (to keep out vacation photos, pictures of ramen noodle soup, etc).

Models on this tier do not get reward points, but people can pretty much upload anything they want, be for a laugh, for praticing modeling skills, for posting drafts to get feedback, for creators to work together on a project, etc. Anything goes.

The shovelware tier! . . . .

Despite the cranky old men here, I like this idea! I wonder how you can make it so there’s multiple boxes and the one you get each time is random

There’s not a problem with the idea except it violates the rules about photos of the final print so people know it is printable.

Unfortunately there have been real problems as some try to scam points and gift cards by posting unprintable things or things that don’t match the image. That’s why the rule was imposed - people looking for loopholes to scam Bambu with people who try to print those models out time and filament and complaining about deceptive models.

Instead of taking the approach to name call those trying to explain the why, why not take a step back, lose the name calling, and if you can come up with any workable suggestions for Bambu, make them.

The simple fact is models not having actual photos of the printed piece was a big issue and still is because it’s a technique used here to cheat. It’s not our fault it was done so much that rules had to be implemented and those rules get in the way of what @gobotoru wants to do. Your beef is with the people who forced those rules to be needed in the first place. His idea would have been fine here not that long ago.

We were also trying to keep him from getting penalized by Bambu for trying something that violated the rules. The stakes go up in the exclusive program and turns out, the idea cost him a penalty.

And not one bit of that is our fault.

Well, I wouldn’t name it like that. The new tier would be more like other platforms that have little to no rules. People still use them.

The new tier will be good for testing ideas like the one OP has, among other uses. That’s why this thread reminds me of my suggestion of adding a new tier.

I like that, more of a sandbox, everything is public domain or at least attribution remixable.

Speaking of remixing… if you haven’t see. Scott Yuann’s latest video about our community, it’s lovely and quite the love letter to us all. One thing though, part of what makes our community awesome imho is remixing, and exclusives are putting a bit of a damper on that culture possibly stifling innovation.

My most popular models are remixes, born out of frustration and ideas, but still crediting. The exclusives have lead to some… interesting ways to get around giving remix credit.

I’m particularly peeved because a model of mine that’s been a little stagnant now has 5 copycats reusing cad from mine (though hiding it in a different exterior) and reports have failed, yet they are getting featured as exclusive with thousands of prints makes and boosts. Its simultaneously hypocritical of me to bemoan these… “innovations” (they are only different aesthetically not functionally) but to each their own, I guess I’m just salty because being that my own is exclusive, they CANNOT give me credit less they become in violation of the exclusive rules by doing so. Ded if you do, ded if you don’t.

Er. No. Why would I waste time and filament on something I am 99.999% sure I don’t want?!

2, put your mystery “junk” in that box
