I swear I hear a beep!

I’m not crazy but my X1C was beeping (the sound from a truck backing up). I’ve reviewed the forum and all I can find are posts about beeping when a print begins. Mine started about 45 minutes into a 6 hour print and I had no idea what it was. I live in a city and figured it was a truck in the neighborhood, but it did not stop. I walked around my apartment until zeroing in on the printer. Everything seemed fine and the beep stopped about 3 minutes later. Does anyone have any ideas?

Do you have it connected to a UPS by any chance?

I would have to say no because I don’t know what a UPS is. If you mean a UPS truck, that would be no. I live in the typical Manhattan apartment and wouldn’t have anywhere to park it.

UPS - Uninterrupted Power Supply

It’s a device that if the power goes out it continues to supply power to whatever is plugged into it. If they lose supply power, are overloaded or the battery is failing they will beep.

Now I feel extra stupid. I do not.

Don’t feel stupid. I asked that because every time in the past someone has had a beep here it turned out to be the UPS beeping and not the printer. Is there anything else around the printer that could be beeping? I don’t think the X1 printers have the ability to.

Stepper motors can output different pitches and notes depending on what the head movement is doing. I wouldn’t expect it to be as loud as a truck, but it’s true that my p1s often tricks me into thinking my wife is humming a tune in the other room.

Your printer probably hit a part of the print that make the stepper motors give out a repeated ‘beep’.

You do not by any chance have a battery powered fire alarm somewhere in the house?

They are mandatory in my country. It always takes me half a day to remember that I have them when wondering about that beep indicating it’s running out of juice. Bloody hard to locate it, too …

This only happens between 3 AM and 4 AM, when the alarms know everyone is at home and fast asleep.

Actually, I once spent 2 days (and nights) trying to find which piece of furniture that bloody bird had trapped itself behind :joy: It just never peeped when I was under that particular one (out of 7).

But that was not as bad as the little one making breakfast at 4AM. Using the toaster 4 times in a row. With the same slice…

My head went straight to specific motions and speeds of the steppers as well. If you have never seen one look for stepper motor music on YouTube. It’s kind of amazing what someone motivated enough can make them do. There are some fun floppy drive motor music videos also.

One of my X1C’s has a pulley in one of the rear tensioners that occasionally makes a squeaking sounds which could be easily identified as a “Beep”. Perhaps that was it?

This has happened to me twice in hotel rooms. You cannot imagine how aggravating that is!
