So Bambu labs assured me the sound I was hearing was not from the power supply and is “normal”, it started with a louder bearing noise then evolved to this strange rumble tapping bearing sound the video below is what they told me is normal of their printers.
Had the machine powered off for a night and a day, turned it on to find this sound
After the first video They told me that they do not think it’s the power supply and pointed the finger at the tool head… now it’s the exhaust fan so I took the rear panel off the machine and I’m pretty certain it’s the power supply fan
Apologies for the terrible camera work
I am determined to make this machine function like it’s meant to!
Is it possible to unplug the power supply fan for a test? If not, turn the machine off. Stick a plastic straw through power supply fan. Turn the machine on. Is the noise still there? Remove straw. Did the noise resume?
I don’t think I can unplug the fan ? It’s built into the power supply and to be honest I don’t really want to be messing with it. Im a mechanical biased engineer and don’t want the spicy pixies to be angry at me
Don’t know yet. They refused after the second video I decided to remove the filter to prove the exhaust fan was not moving. The full video I sent them included the QR code and a shot of the settings screen showing no fans are on. But the PSU cooling fans are typically always on from memory
Will do, i wasn’t lying when I said something was wrong with the printer the other day! If the nose keeps getting worse and worse soon it might sound like a impact wrench
The support team, including TheHumanGlowstick, was probably on the wrong track, since he kept referring to the Vortek motor as the source of the noise, as mentioned in the previous thread. Support probably had to adjust to the new situation first, since TheHumanGlowstick always talked about the Vortek motor before.
I guess that’s settled then, right? That’s not the case anymore - now it’s about the fan, right? Or are these different cases now?
It’s definitely great that there are now videos and feedback - that really sheds new light on the case.
First video didn’t sound to bad to me, second one and something is off. It sounds like the back right corner, so PSU or exhaust fan perhaps? Sounds like a busted/imbalanced fand blade to me.
Did you send them a YouTube link? It’s possible that your video is blocked in certain regions, or that they don’t have access to YouTube at all, or aren’t allowed to open external links. Did you attach the video to the email?
I sent the full video in the bambu lab app it includes the QR code, the noises and more than the YouTube video. The YouTube video is a cut down version without my printers specific identification marks
They definitely watched it as the confirmed to me that “Regarding the fan noise, we would like to clarify that we do not need to see the fan speed displayed on the screen . This is because when the chamber exhaust fan is faulty, it can still spin at full speed even while showing a speed of 0 on the screen. Your confirmation that the noise is not coming from the exhaust fan is already very helpful.”
After 3 weeks of messaging Bambu lab they have finally decided that the psu is actually causing the noise. They are sending a replacement. I wonder why the support email team is so hit and miss…
That’s a bummer! I’ve heard a few of the noises made by bad PSU fans on FB groups and it’s unlike any other fan failure I’ve heard. It’s so unique it should be obvious to them by the sound (you would think).
It’s when they walked me for another video after the last one. Almost made me lose it this printer has had a new filament sensor, extruder gear, extruder cam, vortek motor now the PSU everything before the psu was it less than 200 hours, PSU at 300 hours. Don’t get me wrong here I know things do go wrong. Like my old prusa XL 5 tool head was dead on arrival (ironically a dead PSU) the difference was prusa had a live chat with technical knowledge.
Don’t really trust the printer all that much anymore. It’s a shame since the handy app is rather handy lmao. I just wish they were more honest about the material capabilities of the H2C and well built my printer better (both the one from the reseller (returned) my first one from Bambu labs (replaced) and the replacement they sent.) it’s been an experience
Yeah I noticed that since they never sign off with a name. It’s a really bad way of doing complex issues. When someone takes a email enquiry it should stay with them imo
That’s so wild! You must’ve gotten one built late on a Friday!
I’ve had the opposite experience. I literally abuse a fleet of them with heat non stop 24/7 and need to maintain them more / get on more of a schedule and they just keep on chugging out nice parts.
See I’m in two minds about it. Part of me knows I can replace the parts, rewire it if needed and all that jazz. I have done it before it’s not exactly hard (and Bambu can stop telling me the y axis is not replacable because it definitely can be.) but since the machine cost 2 grand and they themselves say it’s not a toy they can fix the machine. If I wanted a user building and messing around printer I would have bought a core one with index system (when it’s available…) I do like building things but I don’t like fixing other people’s mistakes. (Kinda like when prusa built a load of xls with the cooling fan backwards) At the moment I refuse to even turn it on because I don’t want that fan to fail and set my house on fire…
