Disclaimer: I realize that Bambu rarely changes its systems; this is just a little rant.
Let’s be honest, Bambu / MakerWorld - that’s going on with you guys?
I still haven’t received a single boost to give away, even though I print from MakerWorld regularly. Your system even keeps asking me to rate the models I’ve printed. Okay, I have to be honest - there have been two boosts since I first brought up the topic - It’s been over a year since then.
Yesterday I printed something that really saved me a lot of work and time. It was from a small designer whose model has few downloads and not a single boost. I wanted to thank him sincerely, but there’s no way to do that - except, of course, by leaving a good review.
Why isn’t there an option, for example, to get a boost with every order or with every fifth filament spool you buy from you guys? Something like that. Any possibility rather than no possibility.
So what ever became of your big announcement a year ago that complex models would be supported? That’s exactly what you were promoting back then. Maybe it’s not the most complex thing, but I see potential that’s being discouraged right away.
It’s possible that my workflow maybe is different what you have in mind, but on the other site, you really do record every print and ask me to rate it, so it was recorded.
Give us a option to purchase a boost, or to add it to a filament purchase - the current system isn’t reliable enough to distribute boost.
Yeah, I agree too, I also haven’t had many boosts in this year. Also, I think a boost is something very special and that you should always have some to use, like giving a restaurant a tip, not something you don’t know when to receive. I don’t agree that much with “monetizing” boosts (with every order a boost), I would prefer something like a separate point area that you can’t use, just for giving. (Every month 50 points for donating). That way, it would become something more personal the amount that you give, with no donation limit.
I like the idea of gettng boosts from filament / accessories purchase : I never get any as I print in LAN mode, and mosttly from Orca.
Even printing from BBStudio only allows a comment where I can add pictures and thanks the designer, I have no way to give 5 stars or boosts
I’ve been consistently getting boosts every week. Not sure what algorithms Bambu is using. Maybe they only award boosts from downloading and printing the model within bambu studio?
Actually, MakerWorld is supposed to log the print no matter what you use or what you print. The important thing is that the print is logged, which you can tell because you’re prompted to rate it. Unfortunately, though, this hasn’t been working for months - the print is logged, but the boost isn’t awarded.
My list is completely full of printouts that I’m supposed to review. There are other reasons that we don’t know about.
This is just a guess, but since we don’t know how the algorithm works, maybe it’s because you joined MakerWorld a few months ago. We don’t know for sure, but it’s possible that new users are given preferential treatment in terms of boosts to give away. At the very least, that would be an interesting question to explore.
That statement sounds strange to me - are you sure? Can you back that up? We’re talking about boosts that you can pass on, not the ones you receive from others. Those were usually handed out only once a month, not weekly. Can you post some proof of that? Thanks.
However, that’s not really the point. Regardless of what those reasons are, there should be other ways to get a boost. We should be able to influence them. We need to make the boost meaningful again and give it to small artists.
Yeah, I don’t know what’s been going on; I’ve had a boost dry spell for many months now and I print downloaded models regularly.
Has MakerWorld only started providing boosts for the most complex models? They are tons of models that I print that are not massively complex, but they do massively improve my everyday. It would be a true shame if MakerWorld no longer incentivized useful models that still take time and effort to make awesome.
Thanks for all the information. Apparently, they were changed at some point, and I didn’t catch it. Thank you for pointing that out.
Which makes the situation even stranger…
That’s exactly what I think, too. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough data to verify that. Personally, I’m thinking more along the lines of a specific date - for example, after a year. Maybe both.
I can only post my own data here: I received a lot of boost - or rather, I gave it away - up until a specific date, and then it was all over: April 2025 - exactly one year after I awarded the first boost.
It wasn’t until July 2026 that I was able to give one boost away. However, when I look at what I’ve printed over the last two months and am supposed to review, it just doesn’t add up at all: One boost within two months, even though there were many hours prints involved?
Increasing your total weekly print time of MakerWorld models (limited to Bambu Lab printers), actively participating in giving out Boost Tokens, actively engaging in model comments and rating print profile, will increase your chances of receiving Boost Tokens!
Since I rarely rate or leave comments anymore - I basically only rate something if it really impresses me or smal creators - it could be that I’m not getting a boost because I’m not “active engagement” enough.
After all, the word “chances” is now in the wording, too.
Either way, MakerWorld should just offer another way to get boost to give away…
They probably didn’t want to tie boosts directly to money. Because then a case can be argued that people are “selling” the models they upload, even for copyrighted ones.
Bambu lost? (or maybe it was settled outside) a lawsuit with popmart because they argued that: uploading labubu > get points > trade for gift card = getting monetary gain for the models they didn’t own.
That’s already indirectly the case anyway, since you earn points. Points = money. In that regard, boost no longer makes a distinction in terms of IP infringement. Anyone who uploads something and earns points - gets paid through points.
If someone uploads models that infringe on intellectual property rights, then in a sense, they’ve made money right from the first point. In fact, some creators are already selling commercial licenses directly through the MakerWorld system, from which MakerWorld itself profits, and are involved in IP infringement.
Or to put it another way: MakerWorld has absolutely no interest in moderating IP infringement or addressing the issue, because that would be an admission that they’re doing something wrong.
However, that’s a different topic; I’ve already started a separate thread on it:
