More around 1090 (had to look at the groups count) its a local 3D printing group stretched between 2 states. Micro center is our go to. When there is a sale we can wipe 90 percent of the stores stock. We all do use other brands but the majority is inland. Everyone owns at least one bambu iteration. And yes I have personally met everyone in our group. I am not the only one the admins have put on meets to get to know everyone and see where help is needed and who does this as a hobby and who’s a seller.
Ahh I see, I was thinking that you had like 1000 friends that all use microcenter. I don’t buy my normal PLA from inland but I get silk mostly from inland.
There is a wedge that you insert into the spool. It is printed with the Bambu Lab spool. This will prevent it from twisting off.
Ive got an RFID device that connects to an app on my phone that allows me to choose the filament type and colour etc and then write the information to a tag. This works flawlessly on my Creality K2, it also writes bambu tags, but, the ams wont read it. What happens is, you scan the tag you made and stuck on the spool, the app communicates with your printer, the next spool that is inserted into the AMS is associated with the tag you scanned.
Even if they limited it to a set of 5 User tags that we then could set our own parameters for it would help for some of our favorites

The reverse-engineering is basically finished. Keys derive from the UID, and tags can be read and cloned with a Proxmark3 or a Flipper. The only thing left that Bambu actually controls is the RSA signature.
So the ask here isn’t “open the format”. We all understand that won’t happen as the filament margin is what funds the printers. The ask is to sell pre-signed generic tags: “Generic PLA”, “Generic PETG”, “Generic ASA” and a few base colours, in packs. Since only Bambu can sign them, the anti-counterfeit control stays intact, and it adds a bit of revenue on filament that wasn’t going to be a Bambu sale either way.
The current alternatives are worse for everyone. Cloning a genuine tag onto magic Mifare cards breaks the remaining-length tracking, because every clone ends up sharing one identity. Respooling onto empty genuine cores works but is fiddly. Neither is better than simply buying a pack of blank signed tags, if that were an option.
If cannibalisation is the concern, price them accordingly. It would still be worth it.
OK, I know this is an old thread…but I believe it is worth revisiting. In my opinion, Bambu should offer blank RFID tags through their store. Then give ‘US’ the ability to write to them through the Bambu Handy app using the NFIC reader on our smart phones.
So lets says I purchase filament from Micro Center…and since it is a cardboard spool I have printed out an adapter that will fit the core of said spool. I could place an RFID tag on the printed out spool, in the Handy app I choose the brand, color, and type of filament…tap a button that says write…put phone near RFID tag and viola!!! Now the AMS can help track my usage of the spool and knows what it is later down the road when I decide I want to use said spool again. Then when the spool runs out, and I replace it with a new roll, I can hit a reset (for the weight, level, length, or however you want to measure), and it is good to go again.
This way Bambu can still keep their current RFID tags on the lock down, and give us an easier way to manage and track the filament we use on a daily basis.
So, I am sure you know…but …Inland is rebranded Polymaker…and that is an option in the drop down list.

The first mistake of this whole thread is thinking they are doing this as a convenience feature for us, rather than a sales driver for their filaments. All the reasons why everyone here wants it are the very same reasons why they wont do it.
Those reasons drive users to their spools.
It is entirely meant as a perk for buying from them, and programmable blanks will never happen because there are a LOT of people out there who exclusively buy Bambu filaments strictly because they can drop it into the AMS and forget about it.
nvie’s comment above is about the only possibility of anything happening, that is to say selling “generic X material” tags for us to use, and even then it’s unlikely because there’s always that slight chance they annoy a user enough to just spend the extra couple dollars buying the Bambu rolls.
So maybe someone can enlighten me. In the AMS menu when you pick a BBL filament the unit keeps track of usage? So my question is when I open that menu I have added several Overture filaments, they show up with the info from the filament manager. I have Generic and then I has unsupported. Polymaker is in the unsupported list, I would think they would not be since Overture is not. Can someone maybe explain to me when you are selecting the filament from the AMS menu are you using the pull down that has the filament manager info?
