I'm convinced no one actually looks at copyright claims logically

Back when there was the ability to do so, I shared a few models from Printables (all following the correct guidelines), and created profiles. The model page properly linked to the Printables page (you literally cannot add it without the correct links).

Suddenly just one of the models (even though there are multiple model variations), gets removed, I lose points, and my account gets blocked from redeeming points for a significant amount of time.

Only the original designer on Printables can claim copyright, which obviously didn’t happen since only 1 of the 4 models was removed.

Of course, there is no way to see proof of the violation (which again, cannot be possible since it was shared through the system BL set up themselves).

Removing points earned is the killer in these situations. Why shouldn’t I just delete everything I have ever uploaded to protect my points? Great way to drive engagement…

i’m confused are you sharing your designs from printables or other peoples designs?

So what was the original model’s license exactly?

I was unable to upload a Benchy to Makerworld because its license surprisingly doesn’t allow it. My intention was primarily to share print SETTINGS for it as opposed to take any cred for the model, but apparently I’m not allowed to (which is pretty dang weird for ā€œtheā€ de facto benchmark model). So OK fine with me - except there are lots and lots of benchies on Makerworld, that consequently violates its license? Everyone can share it except me? BTW it’s even included on every single Bambu printer that is sold… is that also a license violation or not?

To clarify - in the early days, MakerWorld had an extra option here called ā€œshareā€:

They ENCOURANGED people to share models from other sites like Printables. The process permanently links the model to the Printables page, giving full credit to the original designer. Here’s an example I managed to find:

The dog avatar user shared it, and they do not get any points from model downloads, just profile downloads (if they even added any). Further down you see this:

When clicked, it takes you to the Printables page for this model. This is all automated by the system MakerWorld had in place.

If the original designer creates an account on MakerWorld, they can claim all model download points.

The points I’m referring to are profile points attached to these models. There literally cannot be any copyright violation because the model is directly tied to the original creator.

I have no issue with Bambu Lab deciding to remove all of these ā€˜shared’ models, but it was an actual function of the site, so you can’t just punish people who followed their rules.

It’s extremely scummy, especially when they are punishing people with points that have a financial value tied to them.

Yes the changing of rules and then punishing users needs improvement
