Images from makerworld.bblmw.com are very slow from Germany

makerworld.bblmw.com is responding very slow to requests from Germany, Frankfurt am Main. It’s fine for other countries via VPN.

I’m currently browsing Makerworld from Frankfurt am Main and it seems normal…

Can confirm that they are also slow for me sometimes. Pictures in ratings are often times just thin black bars until moments later the image pops up.

On the normal site pictures can sometimes be seen loading bit by bit just like in dial up times.

Not Frankfurt like the other two but only 45 minutes away from it.

The problem lies with German internet service providers, who deliberately slow down the websites and services of companies that do not pay them. This mainly affects international websites.

To be precise, it’s about peering and bottlenecks. The complaint filed by the consumer protection agency explains that. A VPN can be used to circumvent this limitation. Even if you are not a Telekom customer, you would still have to complain to them if you use their cable.

That’s why it functions without issues with VPN. This is how you can tell if your provider is slowing you down.

For everyone else, I translated the most important parts for those who don’t speak German. For clarification: Telekom operates almost all networks in Germany. Even if you are using a different provider, you are still using their cables.

"The alliance accuses Telekom of creating artificial bottlenecks at the access points to its network. These bottlenecks are deliberately used by Telekom to require online services to pay for unhindered access to Telekom customers.

The result is a two-tier society on the internet: financially strong services that pay Telekom are quickly routed into the Telekom network and function flawlessly. Smaller providers and start-ups that cannot or do not want to afford these payments are slowed down. Their services load slowly or not at all – they get stuck in the data traffic jam at the entrance to the Telekom network."

Ugh I’m with Telekom. My internet was so much faster and more stable (and cheaper!) in New Zealand - an island in the bottom of the Pacific… Even cellular - what they call “5G” - it’s SO slow here. And the whole thing about the price ramping up if you forget to cancel and renew your contract is just WTF.
