Importing OBJ files completely crashes Bambu Studio

Using Ver. 2.0.1.50
On Windows 10 22H2 & Win 11 23H2

I have a OBJ file that was created in Maker Lab March 8th 2025 with the “Image to 3D Model” Experimental tool, at this time I was running Ver. 1.10.2.
I was unaware (and pleasantly surprised) to find out when it was imported into Bambu Studio it automatically color maps allowing you to pick up 15 color / Filaments. I saved the file as project file “3mf”.

While watching a Bambu Studio 2.0 review video I saw that they improved this feature. So I decided to see what it could do with the OBJ file I created back in March, I created New Project and when I try to import the same OBJ file Bambu Studio now the program shows the “Loading” dialog window, the status stays at zero and after about 10-15 seconds it just disappears no error message or anything.

I am able to open and load the Project file I created so there’s that…

But now it makes me wary about trying to work with anymore OBJ files

Troubleshooting steps attempted:
Uninstalled and removed remnants of installed Ver. 2.0.1.50 (thought maybe the flood of updates over the past few weeks from 1.10.2 to 2.0.1.50 corrupted something) - Rebooted and re downloaded from Bambu Lab Website 2.0.1.50
completed the installed and rebooted for good measure - Problem still remains.

The next day I attempted the same process (no reinstalling just importing the file) on my Work system and same result. (yes the same exact file as it is in my Dropbox Account).

So at least for me this problem is easily reproducible.

Has anybody else experienced this issue.

At this point I am not interested in updating the ■■■■ out of my OS’s to “try” to fix a problem that didn’t exist 3.5 weeks ago. I have considered rolling back to 1.10.2 but i am skeptical and this may create future issues down the road.

Bambu Studio 2.01 crashes. I did the same steps you performed. When I try to load an obj it takes forever while the icon spins and then completely crashes. I’ve tried this on both Mac and Windows versions. When I use Bambu Studio version 1.10.2 it works.

Thanks for the reply this gives me hope that my problem could be fixed for now. I noticed other recent posts about similar issues with step file imports and 3MF file imports, looks like the 2.0 updates hosed the import processes. They should increase the size of their beta testing pool this could eliminate future problems.

Follow up: I installed ver. 1.10.2 and tested my OBJ file and it loads fine now.
