Included PEI sheet coating

I dont think ive seen this mentioned anywhere, but the textured PEI sheet has some kind of coating compared to the older X1/P1 sheet. Im guessing its for better adhesion (oleophobic maybe), it feels tacky to my fingers.

Update: After printing for 24+ hours now in various materials, I can say the adhesion is much better compared to the X1/P1 gold PEI plate.

I haven’t noticed this with my H2D included plate - I just ordered and received a spare today, so I will confirm.

I noticed it when assembling my H2D, but its really noticeable if you have the X1/P1 plate to compare with.

No idea, but I will say when I first got it, I was having small bed adhesion issues. I’ve washed it well, used a bit of alcohol (wiki advises against it), and use cotton gloves when touching the plate, and I no longer have any adhesion issues.

Ive had no problems with adhesion so far. I do turn off the AUX fan on most prints to prevent warping, unless they are small and require the extra cooling.

I will be purchasing the Frostbite or Supertack plate as soon as one is available as that the real solution to bed adhesion issues with PLA/PETG, although this one has been amazing so far.

i don’t see that in mine, the texture might be ever so slightly different, but i wouldn’t call it tacky

i’ve however been mostly printing on the smooth pei these last few days, it works great, unless you put a greasy finger there, it’s a magnet for those

I wonder if maybe they have a few different suppliers. I do have a spare coming from Aliexpress Bambu OEM as well, will compare to that one when it arrives. Mine is similar to the ESP PEI plate from Juupine, but even more tacky.

yeah i wouldn’t be surprised, at least the supertack has for sure different suppliers, as i have different experiences with the ones i have (one is great, two suck)

let us know how the aliexpress one goes

i don’t really have bed adhesion issues with either the textured or the smooth (i had a small one with the smooth, but it was my fault… greasy fingers  )

Will post an update here, it should be here next few days. Also I did not have any protective film on mine, how did yours arrive?

it also didn’t have it from what i recall, but the smooth PEI did come with it (and the vision as well)

Are you just carrying over your practice from previous printers, or did you have an issue with the H2D?

I’d hope the H2D has the smarts to do this itself if necessary.

Just carrying over from my X1 and P1. The extra cooling is not needed on medium and larger items and frequently causes warping, will for sure happen with H2D with the ducts fully open in a cold room. It does not take object size into calculations, AUX fan is just on by default in filament profiles.

I did have a strange issue that might be related. When printing on my H2D with matte black Bambu PLA and I pulled it off of the build plate it got a white wash that I didn’t have on my A1 build plate. I did wash the buildplate beforehand:

I have only printed three things on the H2D, all with the matte black PLA and all resulting in the white haze. So there seems to be something different indeed

Those are stress marks, just do a quick pass with a blow torch to remove them. If you are getting those, it means the first layer adhesion is great.

I had a similar issue on my A1 the other day. I assume these are also stress marks then? Using a lighter I was indeed able to remove the white marks.

And since you mentioned it, any particular things I need to know before purchasing a blow torch?

I also think mine has some kind of coating. Even after the plate has completely cooled, filament is stuck on pretty well. I wonder if they added something to improve adhesion for new users.

Just make sure its an actual torch and not one of those lighter ones with a tiny flame. You want a big flame to get the surface up to temp quickly, without melting the plastic under the first layer.

Interesting, I’ve washed the plate and ordered a new one and still have bed adhesion issues in a couple of spots. Also, where does it say no alcohol on the PEI textured plate? That’s almost all I’ve used with my X1C historically (edit: between dawn dish soap washes).

Not for nothing but i’ve had much better success with Dawn soap and water over 90% isopropyl alcohol, which is what i used on all my old creality printers back in the day. I dunno what the correct answer is, but now whenever i get an adhesion issues on my P / A printers with gold and i still have an old black plate, i’ve never needed to use anything else.

100% - I wash with dish soap every couple of weeks or so, the rest of the time is IPA between prints.
