This is a tie pin clip, the pin part is 10mm diameter and 10mm tall, the pin head thickness is 1mm. I would like to insert this onto a badge so the pin is exposed for the other part to connect to. I do not want to stick it on the badge.
I doubt that I can get the print head close enough to the pin to embed it, So I was thinking about placing a 11mm x 1mm stopped slot on the rear of the print and sealing the slot closed with a soldering iron tip.
Does anyone have any other ideas that I could use?
create breakaway legs on the back side of the print that are long enough to provide room for the pin to hang below the print. Then use supports to fill in the rest while printing. On the top side of the print have a well 10mm dia and 1.1mm deep. Pause the print just before the layer that covers the well. Drop the pin in and then continue printing whatever you want…
Good approach.
I was only looking at this from the view point of placing a badge face down to provide a clean finish. Instead of trying to generate a “flat face”, I can add raised text.
Or you can ‘Iron’ the face to get a nice flat finish. I’ve done some embedded hardware and it’s actually quite easy with Bambu Studio. I would prefer that I can just offset Z of the print and have BS add the supports. Maybe someday…
Now that is something, I foolishly thought that I would be able to raise the object to Z + 12mm and the supports would be added in place automatically.
I have only ironed one item to surface so far, it was flat but not perfect, clearly I will need to work on the settings. I have some research to do.
It wasn’t foolish at all! I expected the very same thing! That’s how I came up with this alternative approach. We should get this on the BS Want to Haves (if there is such a list).
