Interior light upgrade (better camera quality)

For those who are unhappy with the quality of the camera in the P1 series, there isn’t much you can do about the actual camera module at this point.

That said, one of the basics of photography is that lighting is everything! To this end, I installed a string of simple LED lights powered by the internal USB port, and you can judge the difference below for yourselves:

Before (official Bambu P1S light only):

After (official light plus LED string):

These photos are from my P1S which has the AMS on top, in a well-lit room. I probably need to trim this string down a little, as if anything it’s a tiny bit TOO bright now, but the difference is pretty decent for less than £10.00 off Amazon!

Not the most advanced mod in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but hopefully this helps some folks out.

I wonder how people get to use the USB port. It sits in an impossible angle for me to reach lefthanded. Wanted to do the same with the lights, but also need the USB to power the XTouch screen.

Got a photo of how you installed those string lights?

I’ve got a little USB hub that I am hoping will work for the XTouch too:

I’ll grab photos when my current print finishes! It’s not the tidiest job ever, but it works so far.

Here’s one way to install lights. Search “Glass Separation Riser with or without Venting” on printables. Allows for a ring of lights all the way around the chamber. It allows for powering from an external source at back of the printer, but should work fine connected to the onboard USB port.

Brackets to allow venting of the top glass are optional.

The version I remixed from supports an AMS if you need that–though not the same type of LED strip.

I did look at doing one of these riser-type prints for the LEDs but didn’t want to change the dimensions of the printer. Having the light coming from behind the camera was also my preference to avoid lens flare or artefacts.

Somewhat related but what do you do with the stock LED? Just leave it? I want to plug THAT into USB but I am not sure what adapter I would need to do that.

Where is the USB port that i would be using? Was not aware of one inside the unit.

Thanks, looked foir it but did not think it would be on the front face inside.

When I added my LED light (it a Panda Lux Led Light) they said in the directions NOT to plug the Bambu led light back in meaning you can’t use the internal one with the Panda Lux. Since you can’t use it I would say yes you can remove it but it looks like there is a lot to take apart to do so.

I found a string off aliexpress that uses the port the actual light plugs in to. Do a search for “p1s led strip” and pick your favorite. I think I paid like $3 for it. And i get the lefthand part. I’m about to replace my AP board and it’s on the left hand side. Should make for a fun day…

They have usb at panda double and a quad that plug in to usb on the board.

Most will pull more than the rated 0.5A limit.

Result might look like this:

Did te same with the LED strip from Action for around $3.
They have really great cold LED strip 30cm lenght, so you can adjust it easily to your needs.

If you’re looking for a small light, here is probably the best option if you don’t want to run a riser and lights all around.
I’ll confirm I ran one of these for about a month before I went 24v on a riser. Use the smaller one, as I think the draw get’s to be too much as you go up, and there really isn’t that much an advantage in a small area like the printer.

TH3D Makes an LED light that plugs right into the connector for the stock light. It is the same price as the Panda LUX and is far superior (I have boith).

Bambu P1 Series Lighting Upgrade Kit – V2

is there a way of controlling them with the switch on the screen but using another power subly?

Put a relay in the circuit so that the screen controls the relay instead of the light. Then the relay will connect the power to the light.

The P1 is a bit different, but you should find some ideas in this topic:
