Internal and External Storage

Please could I have some clarification on how storage works?
I have a 256GB external USB connected, which saves Timelapse’s etc. All working fine.

When I send a print job it is saved twice - I assume it is saved to internal storage as well as the USB (I have the option set to save to the external storage).

Can I set it to just store on the USB rather then seeing 2 copies of the same file when I browse the printer storage tab in device tab in Bambu Studio?
How much will it store on internal storage?

In essence, I want all my sent files to be stored on the USB drive so I can build library, rather then see them listed twice. Is that not possible?
I only really want the last sent item, or currently printing item on the internal storage…

You see it twice until you print something else. What you see in internal storage is not saved permanently, it will be overwritten by the next file.

Yes the one stored locally is overwritten - but mine seems to store two files for each model on the USB as well?
So when I switch to the connected USB, I see one file correctly, an dteh second is a duplicate with a small timer icon in the top corner.
Have uploaded a pic, where you see 2 files. Both have been duplicated with a small timer icon - what does this icon mean?
Thank you

The latest firmware (or may be even before) does that, it seems to store the file in the cache folder (the ones with the small clock) and a duplicate at the root of the USB stick. I think the cache folder is limited to 8 files so those with the small clock will eventually be overwritten but the ones at the root of the USB stick will stay as long as you have enough capacity then they will also be overwritten one by one to make room.

I don’t know why it’s like that, must be a limitation of the current firmware until bambu changes the coding to allow more than 8 files in the cache. It sounds to me like just a quick fix for now to allow more files in memory without changing the 8 file cache limit.

Why have the cache at all?
From my understanding, the active file is sent to internal storage for printing anyways - I just wanted a copy to be saved to the USB. I don’t want cached files and duplicates on the Usb at all.
Hopefully a bug Bambu will fix at some point…

I wonder if it’s something to do with power loss recovery or if it’s updated when you do things like skipping objects. Pure speculation but maybe
