I sincerely tried to find an answer but couldn’t. Please forgive me if this has already been answered elsewhere.
My internet went down. I really needed a print for work so I figured it was OK since I run in LAN only mode.
When I first installed the system I did not scan the QR code. I have always used the X1C in LAN Only. Just to confirm, In Bambu Studio, I have to click on the Device tab and connect to the printer with a code from the LAN only section of the X1C.
So I prepare the print and everything is fine. It connects to the printer and when I tell it to print, it starts to transfer the file and then it stops. It says it can’t reach the FTP server.
This is a bit unsettling. I am using LAN only for a reason! I knew it sent files via the FTP in “regular” mode but I was not aware that it still reached out to a FTP in LAN only.
Ugh… I know this will sound really dumb but the system I typically use is a virtual machine that is isolated from my network. I send jobs to it over e-mail. With the internet down I couldn’t.
So I installed Bambu Studio on a laptop and for some reason - even though I could ping the X1 - it would not find the printer over LAN.
So I was going to do just as you say, that is, put it on a SD card and print it that way,. However, with the laptop not synchronized to the printer, I couldn’t figure out how to tell Bambu Studio that I wanted to use a different filament other than slot 1.
In the end, I created a ISO of the STEP file I needed to print and mounted that to my VM as a DVD drive. I thought everything was fine. It sliced and saw the printer with no problems.
But without the internet, I kept getting the message that it couldn’t reach the FTP server.
My internet is back on and everything works. But I am still unnerved that it is reaching out to a FTP server.
Maybe I should e-mail support.
I literally only bought this system because I read the details in a WireShark report about how in LAN mode there was no outside communication.
Tech support kept saying that it should work without internet. I finally decided to just unplug the WAN cable to my router to simulate my ISP being down.
I went through the whole process. I even went into command line and took screen shots of IPCONFIG and Pinging the X1C.
I then opened Bambu Studio and connected to the printer like before. I told Bambu Studio to print the plate like before. I was expecting the same FTP error like before.
But it worked.
I really have no idea what happened. I will gladly admit any mistakes but I confirmed all my connections that night as well as confirming my printer was set to LAN only.
Maybe the next time someone else has this issue they can try just unplugging the WAN and rebooting. I know it doesn’t make sense but this is the latest info I have.
Strange… I’m not sure why this would matter (without thinking about it too hard), but I wonder if it was just a partial failure that you had before. i.e. Your Internet was technically working, but your DNS service was not.
