Is it possible to add a brim just in a part of a model?

So I have a model that is just 3m on its side, but is long, and I don’t want to add a brim to entire model as I think that would be overkill, but I would like to add a brim on this one end, that keeps getting loose on the build plate. Is there a way to just add a brim to one specific area of a model, maybe using a modifier, etc?

Mouse ears. However they’re not implemented in BS yet. Prusa and Cura will allow it.

Unfortunately brims can’t be modified by modifiers. Brims are only sectable on the uppermost assembly.

You can however add a disk or single layer thick rectangle to the part to function as a brim.

There is a technical work around that I used when dealing with a wildly asymmetric model that mimics your use case. While not a perfect solution, it does work. Here’s how it goes.

Let’s say you have a model that you only want to apply a brim to one side or partial

Step 1: Select and clone the object. CTRL-K is the shortcut key.

Step 2: Using the cutter, remove all but 0.5mm of the bottom.

In this example I will change the color of the filament even though I don’t own and AMS to make it more visible.

Step 3: Using the cut tool again, orient the cut 90 degrees and use it as a knife and cut away the parts of the model you don’t want as a brim.

Step 4: Place the new model underneath the old model and scale it to size.

Step 5: Now one of the downsides to this approach is that you will have a 0.5mm shape underneath your model.

So how we fix that is to use the position tool but only move the z access just a little. It’s easier to do if you pivot the plate and watch the model from the underside just poking through the plate enough to ensure that the yellow part of this example is occluded. Or you can simple do it by entering a value in the positions tool.

Step 6: Since the slicer will complain about two models being too close, you’ll have to select both via CTRL-Click and then Right-Click and create an Assembly.

SHIFT-Click and dragging a box around the models will select them all or you can selected them in the objects menu or CTRL-Click and select them individually.

Alternatively, a cleaner way to do this in step five is to use the Boolean tool but that tool can be tricky if you’re not familiar with it as the tool is still underdeveloped and not user-friendly.

Optional: I almost forgot one optional step.

If you want to make the artificial brim act and look more like a real brim, change this slicer settings while under the object menu. You can also vary the density of the brim by changing the Spars Infill Density, something the standard brim tool does not allow.

Good Luck. :four_leaf_clover:

I just copy the bottom face, use a flow tool or just enlarge the thing and add a 0.08mm gap.
Then I cut away what I won’t as a brim and call it day by saving the model.
Similar for adding just a brim for thin ends and such - I just use a circle tool around the end…
And in case you wonder: I extrude this new face to the first layer height or two if need a stronger brim.
Takes only a few minutes…

I just found this Bambu wiki about how to add “mouse ears” manually in BS Tips for using discs to preventing warping | Bambu Lab Wiki

Orca 2.0 has them too. And @LakeWorthB, you’ll feel right at home with it coming from BS.
