Is the AUX fan on the X1C meant to vibrate loudly?

Hi everyone,

I got sent a replacement fan which is sadly even worse than the original I had issues with. When on it vibrates super loud and can be heard through the whole house, I can’t really hear the air being pushed by the fan but the actual vibrations fan be felt/heard really easily. I’m not sure what to do, is this just normal for X1C?

Thank you.

Last time I had my Aux fan off I noticed there was a thick doublesided tape against the wall, it seems to me it might be a vibration damper of sorts. Does yours have anything inbetween the wall and the fan?

Buy yourself a Noctua fan to replace the BL one (see on Amazon.eu there are equivalent 24V options to choose from) highly silent and performing flawlessly.

Yes, both the original and replacement had it but it didn’t help sadly

I don’t think noctua do blower fans, not that I could find any

Ok then, next step would be a video to support for proof.

I’ve replaced all my existing BL fans with Noctua. Indeed, it wasn’t easy finding equivalent replacements (operating with 24V and the same pin number) but I’ve eventually managed over several months of research on EU-based websites (including Amazon.eu) to purchase them and replace them, even having a couple more as backup replacements, if necessary. The result is more than satisfactory, as both the noise generated levels and the cooling in the X1C have improved significantly.

Nope, no vibrations or mechanical sound on my X1C, although the internal fan is noisy at full speed. That said, it’s ok with the door closed and top glass on.

If you place your finger on the fan housing can you identify what is making the noise?
If you hold or move the housing gently, does the noise reduce or stop?

I really can’t see anything in noctuas portfolio for a blow type fan 12032 24V 4pin.

Yes if I place my finger I feel the whole housing vibrate, and if I touch the hub with my finger I feel oscillations of the spinning hub moving up and down, the fan itself feels unbalanced. But sadly this is the same for the original and the replacement that they have sent.

If I hold it the vibration becomes lesser but that’s because my hand is absorbing a portion of it.

If you still have the original fan, does the vibration feel the same?
If some “flash” (extra bit of plastic) from the injection moulding is causing the imbalance, then carefully trimming it off, a little at a time, may balance the fan. Then you have a spare :slightly_smiling_face:

That would solve the cause.

Adding thicker double-sided tape may address the symptom.

It would be interesting to see a short video with sound, especially when the fan is removed and lying flat on a hard surface, to illustrate the imbalance.

Have you a link for me for the noctua fans?

start from here: Amazon.de: Noctua
and then expand your search. There are also some Noctua competitors offering similar products. Some are reliable, some less. Also, search in your local area for Noctua resellers. Sometimes you can get a good deal from them.
