Is the BL filament membership a scam?

I am on the free filament membership program for purchasing a BL P1S. I was very interested in the filament discount program, I thought it would be a great deal on filament. What I have seen during the weeks that I’ve been enrolled is that it’s mostly unpopular filaments that are available for the discount. The most basic filament, PLA black matte, and all the basic filaments, not available! Really? I think this discount program is a sham.

Love the printer, hate the deceptive marketing.

The filament stock isn’t normally like this and I expect that it will return to normal. For what it is worth, the first 2 months of the program Bambu was fully stocked and I maxed out my 8 rolls with common colors of ABS/PLA. This month picking have indeed been slim. Following the holiday rush Bambu’s next hurtle will be the down time of Chinese New Year.

I wouldn’t call it deceptive marketing, more a failure due to their own success.

might be with the release of the A1 series that demand has greatly increased?

Being able to use the Internet really should require a license. :man_facepalming:t2:

So if Amazon gives you a month free Prime but everything you want to buy is sold out means Prime is also a scam?

Popular things being bought more frequently than unpopular items??? No way!

I’m not a fan of it, and I wish they would bring back the old volume based filament pricing. I’ve already chewed through my credits for this month, and I want to buy more filament, but won’t until next month.

This past couple of months is the second time in less.than a year that the store was out of most filaments I need for an extended period. It kinda makes the whole membership thing pointless. Especially once they start charging for it.

Thanks everyone, for your feedback. I am still on my free membership. This is a trial period for me to decide if I want to go the paid route. So far, I have not fund a single spool that I need which is on the program. I guess I’ll just wait it out, and see if the issue is resloved.

Worth noting that the Issues in the middle east are messing with supply lines as well.

This is different, sir. If I paid a $1,500 dollars for Prime, and they advertised that metric screws were in a program, then I’d fully expect that metric screws would be available.

BTW, with multiple degrees and 30 years in the computer industry, I am more than qualified to use the Internet.

It’s not. You didn’t pay $1,500 dollars for the BL Membership. You paid 1500 for a Printer and got the Membership for free. Depending on when you bought the printers means it wasn’t even a part of the original purchase and you got it after the fact.

Also the FREE membership has the term that’s essentially saying “While supplies last”.

It was the same in January last year, and it will get better. Calling it a scam is a bit ridiculous, Bambu suffers more than us from this situation. Not only do we have to buy filament elsewhere right now, but as a result we may find other brands that are good, cheap and can deliver, and we have tried them - so we may continue buying there.

What Bambu should do now, is let us order anyway - to the discount quota of the month we place the orders - and just wait for delivery.

Letting users order already and have bambulab hold their money isn’t a good idea in some cases, given how some people already call something free a scam. If their order takes 1 day longer or something doesn’t go as planned the forum and Reddit will be flooded with

“wHeReS mY oRdER?”

“dID i gEt sCaMmeD?”

“tHeY aRE qUiCk tO tAkE mOnEY buT nOt dElIvEr”

Wouldn’t be the first time.
