Were you using the cardboard spool?
Not sure why they are selling them for that price on Amazon…
At least one can buy them for the regular price of other filament brands on AliExpress:
It’s either out of stock or close to that. So instead of putting the listing down seller decided to change the price to the sky so nobody will buy it. Plus they may change delivery times to 1-2 months.
Sorry, I cannot stand cardboard spools. I have bought a few, and while the filament is decent, I will always avoid if I can. Yes, I respool the junk spool. And I have zero real recycling here either.
I will have to give this a try. Thank you for the info.
So what do you buy instead? Plastic Spools that you throw away? Or only refills?
If you pull the cardboard sides off, 1 side at a time, you can insert the bambu spool into the center part of the cardboard spools. Its the same diameter as the center cardboard piece that bambu uses.
Well I finally got around to using this filament.
It printed fine, pretty much like any other filament.
I’d buy it again.
I printed it on my old Ender 3 Pro to give it the real test.
Worth pointing out the JAYO spool was only 0.65 kg so that $9.99 is actually $15.37/kg which is slightly more than the Bambu bulk price you complained about.
Price per Kg or lb. is what matters not price per spool. A lot of the cheaper spools have less filament as the reason they are cheaper, always check the weight when making price comparisons of filament.
Amazon currently lists the typical price of 3DHoJor as $14/Kg which is the same price Bambu offers if you get at least 6 spools at once(their 2nd level of bulk pricing).(note: it takes 7 spools to get the free shipping from Bambu)
So it does indeed look like the $10 price was a “now open for business” sale.
That’s true the price has stabilized at around $13/spool and so far has resisted tariff spikes. But the key thing is that I don’t know if I’ve spend more that $13/spool in almost a year and more importantly, I don’t pay freight, I get it in 1 day and if I don’t like it, I send back the unused portion on Amazon’s dime. So I don’t see the apples to apples comparison here. Also, where did you see the 0.65Kg? I just looked and nothing that I found was anything but 1Kg. At least nothing I ordered was less than 1Kg. Since then, I’ve split my business between that and Anycubic PLA when they have sales. I prefer their hard plastic reels. They often come down to $12 or $13 spool when they are clearing out inventory but the key is the free freight, 1 day delivery and money back no questions asked. Can we say that of Bambu?
I just did a quick check and Anycubic is actually down to $13 this week for grey which is my preferred color lately.
My printing over the last few weeks with the good weather outside has definitely dented my 3D printing activity but I know as soon as we start hitting the summer time heat, I’ll likely come back indoors more often to escape the heat and then my printing activity will go up.
But my real effort will be to move onto the Elegoo Centauri Carbon platform once they get their supply chain issues resolved. When the two items noted in the photo below are no longer advertised on their website for at least a month, that’ll probably be my signal to pull the trigger. Then I’ll need to decide what to do with my P1P—keep it, sell it, or donate it. After that, I’ll likely fade away from the Bambu ecosystem. There are far better options out there now with equally shitty customer service —but at least they don’t bully their customers. Plus, I won’t be forced to dial up an insecure server in China every time I want to connect to my printer or upgrade the firmware. Also, they’re embracing Orca Slicer rather than alienating the community—another one in the plus column.
I wanted to buy this to see what all the fuss is about.
That date is what stopped me.
It is a weird feeling to make decisions based on
“Will I be alive when this arrives?”
An update on U.K. pricing.
There are many brands selling filaments at £10.99 (tax included) or £9.16 (without tax) per 1KG, including big name brands like eSun and outside of any sales.

The original post’s second image, “Delivered today” “JAYO PLA” with the green arrow pointing to $9.99, lists “1.75mm 0.65KG Spool”.
Worth pointing out the original post was nearly a year ago and the price of everything is up, especially here in the US.
The 0.65 kg JAYO spools are out-of-stock everywhere I can find
Meanwhile, JAYO seems to have increased their standard spool size to 1.1kg.
Even with our tariffs, prices for packages of 4-5 PLA or PETG spools are in the $10-12/kg range.
I’ve been pretty happy with JAYO. It’s the only non-PLA that did not lose any weight in my dryer right out of the bag, and at least three of the colors I’ve calibrated can use the same filament profile.
1kg rolls from £10.99 / £11.99 for a few filament suppliers on amazon.uk some limited time deals while a few others are sneaking in 300g - 700g gram rolls at a similar price , make sure to read the descriptions
2 things I’ve noticed with that 1.1kg spool, and JAYO brand (and I do still like them)
- Their white is the least pure white ive ever used, lol, there is a distinct red hue
- The 1.1kg spool disagrees with the A1 AMS lite when completely new and full, and used for a multicolor print. The multiple long retracts and the absolute-fullness of the spool’s windings make it guaranteed to fly off the spool’s sides and wrap around something else. I work around this by emulating what it looks like in an AMS[nonlite] by giving it something to bump into on the top and bottom (a horrible twisted piece of armature wire, in my case, lol)
By the time it’s down a couple hundred grams it respools correctly. and thigns work fine. I think the spool mfrs should know about these geometries… spool wrap is medieval age technology, but I suspect the marketing dept took over and ordered the factory to give them a competetive advantage of weighing more
Filament has “always” (well since Bambu launched) been 10 USD.
You get the bulk packs from Sunlu etc on ali express, sure range of colours is poor, but it’s 10 USD or less.
Even supposedly “expensive” countries like UK, can get 10 GBP filaments from sunlu official store. Although admittedly that’s like 13 USD.
Filament is 5 USD on Taobao, most of it works.
I bought buy 5 pay 3 PETG for $12.50 a few days ago on eBay.
It was delivered today. I just checked & it’s up to $16.75 now.
Current sale price is just over £24 for four spools.
Just £6 each.
They are on sale, but outside the sale £30 for four or £7.50 each.
