Is this a retraction issue?

These little dimples would’ve been on the underside bc this top part printed upside down. I calibrated my filament, CC3D Antique Gold Silk PLA, but maybe I need to run through another cal?

Bambu P1S. Nozzle 0.4mm, 0.12 or 0.16 layer line I can’t remember, 15% gyroid infill, nozzle temp 230C, bed temp 55C and outer wall 25mm/s, inner wall 40mm/s, other speeds around 30mm/s based on the print tips in the Amazon listing

I would say it is an overhang issue rather than a retraction issue. Lowering your layer height will help or use variable layer height.

I did use variable layer height. You can’t tell from the angle but the actual box doesn’t look good bc of the variable height. Should I go with 0.08 or 0.12 layer height? Or turn on extra support and more cooling for overhangs?

I ran a temp tower and 230C is giving a bit of sag so I think I need to drop the temp too.

I don’t think I would use support. That will cause more issues than solve. 0.12 layer height should be plenty. Try slowing down during overhangs and perhaps add some cooling.

Those overhangs look to be around 45 degrees.
Sharp overhangs are very difficult to get to look nice. They will print but won’t look as nice as the rest of the print.

It’s just the nature of layer overlap vs gravity.

I try to edit my models to reduce/eliminate these types of overhangs if I can help it.

I think you need supports here. You can try adding .02 to the support gap top and bottom to the model to minimize contact with the model. Also, turn the interface layers to zero in the top. I would also consider tree support for this application. Supports used right won’t cause problems.
