Hey guys I had an issue with one of my recent prints and i cant figure out what went wrong.
Issue is: strings are coming out of a flat print area (although theres stringing behind it below the overhang)
I’m Printing with x1c
I left Slicer settings untouched, except i used supports and turned off brims.
I used black pla basic for this print
When the nozzle moves away, it pulls tiny strands from the molten material, similar to how a cotton candy machine pulls molten sugar.
In your situation, the technical term is: “fucked-up”. Sorry I couldn’t sugar coat that but it’s late where I am and past my bedtime.
But in all seriousness, it looks like you’re dealing with a combination of two issues. The first is poor layer adhesion, evident by the solidity (as opposed to wispiness) of the strands, which stringing typically produces. The nozzle laid down perfect strands, but for some reason, they didn’t stick to the previous layer.
There’s a second issue here as well. The fact that this appears isolated to only one section of the model suggests some kind of mechanical interference. Is this the only place on the model where it happens?
Here’s what I suggest: take the model on the plate and, using the rotate tool, rotate it along the z-axis to an odd angle that isn’t a multiple of 30 or 45 degrees—something in between, like 27 or 75 degrees. This will change how the nozzle deposits layers. If the artifacts stay in the same position on the build plate but not on the model, it indicates a mechanical issue, such as a belt problem or a snag in the spool. However, if the artifacts remain in the same location on the model, this may point to an issue with the model’s construction or even a lack of supports.
As @lion7718 mentioned, if you could upload a screengrab of the entire model as it sits after slicing, it would help the community provide a more accurate answer.
I’ve replied to @lion7718 with some photos of how I placed the model and what I changed in the settings. Also im kinda new to 3d printing so forgive me but I have no idea what z-axis is lol
Yep, that’s what I thought.
Now you have to decide if you want to print it that way with the extra support or if your satisfied with the stringy print.
