It's the weekend. What are you printing?

Finally finished the design!

Inspired by Darth Maul.

Now I should go play with the kids… They are “bored” now that they are off from school for the summer.

Wow! Is that silk silver PLA? You make it look so good. Bambu should be using your photos to sell their filament.

LOL

I have some of their silk silver PLA, but that is not it. That stuff destroyed one of my build plates.

That is some random silk PLA I got off Amazon when it was on sale.

These were printed weeks back, but the painters have finished them and now we are using them to decorate in preparation for a children’s even in the coming weeks.

I think they did an amazing job using these for decorations (I printed them, someone else painted them, now another person is decorating with them!)

I tried to link to the original models for all of them. Some of them were scaled up to larger for our decorations.

I think the sea turtles are my favorite!

I printed one of your other models over the weekend here too. Ahh, this thing is more fun than I expected, haha. Not usually a huge starwars fan, but today, well, here’s an accurate representation of me right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPPj6viIBmU

I made the blade portion out of glow in the dark filament and put my black light in the handle. Shooting it down through the glow in the dark filament like that really makes it glow.

That is beautiful!

I made a few blades out of the Glow filament, so much fun!

Yes, they are way more fun than I expected also. My office has received several sabers and I made sure that everyone on my team got one.

I keep looking for more durable material (I have broken so many of these). I just broke one today (dropped it and cracked it). Easy to fix, just print that piece and all fixed.

Some of the lightsabers mentioned above in action! (Faces blurred for privacy!)

The kids were really excited to have their photo taken with the sabers. When asked “Where did you get those?!?” I told them I made them, and they were astonished!

(Unfortunately, I gave the blue saber away before getting its picture.)

Now that Fusion is working with SVG files again, I’m finishing this project up… Hands are just placed for test fit - not in proper register for the time displayed. Still need to get LEDs in it and final assembly. The image with the gray background is the original. The 3D print is the one laying on the wood table and will have a red sweep second hand too…

I’m still working on my Ice Cream Truck this weekend, but I had to stop and knock out another design that I’ve been thinking on for a little while now.

Looking through all of the “airless” designs a while back, I had noticed that there was one obvious omission from the airless collection, airless billiards. I thought for sure an airless 8-ball would do well, so I made a quick one and while making that I started to think about a magic 8-ball and how cool it would be if I made a liquid free, 3d printable version.

My initial thought was to just make a hollow ball with four magnets around the window and a dice floating around inside the ball that was also covered in magnets so you would just shake it until the magnets on the die connected with the magnets on the window. The problem with that is it would be super noisy as well as potential damage to the ball, window and die when shaking it. At an impasse, I decided to move onto other projects and let the idea of a liquid free magic 8-ball marinate for a while.

The other day, while I was working on the Ice Cream Truck, the answer of how to make a liquid free magic 8-ball struck me out of the blue and while it still needs a bit of tweaking (the words are a bit off center), I should have this uploaded tomorrow. It still uses magnets to “grab” an answer, but sometimes you need to give it a little shake as seen in the video.

EDIT: I have no intention of releasing that airless 8-ball or an airless billiards set, but would love to see one out there if anyone is looking for an idea. I also think a Voronoi billiard rack would be cool.
