Want to turn your favorite photos into stunning 3D-printed lithophanes? Make My Lithophane, the newest addition to MakerLab, lets you do just that!

Lithophanes are 3D-printed images that magically appear when illuminated from behind. Varying thicknesses allow light to pass through, revealing your image in monochrome or full-color if printed with CMYK filaments.

We recently asked the Bambulab community what tools they’d like to see in MakerLab, and many of you requested a way to create lithophanes. We hear you!

While other lithophane tools exist, we saw room for improvement in ease of use and integration with the Bambulab ecosystem.

Make My Lithophane is our answer:

  • Effortless Design: Turn photos into lithophanes in just a few clicks.

  • Preview Perfection: See your lithophane before printing to ensure it’s perfect.

  • Advanced Color Recovery: Our algorithm ensures vibrant and accurate colors.

And coming soon: Make My Lithophane on Mobile! Be the first to create lithophanes from anywhere.

I’ve made several color lithophanes but they are quite thick and the colors don’t show through as well as I would like. When printing mono lithophanes, reducing the overall thickness can aid in illumination. Is this a current feature that I am missing or can we hope to see something like this added?

Hi @UMUJU

Welcome to the forum.
What is the thickness of your lithophanes? And which tool are you using for creation? You can impose limits to the minimum and maximum thickness of lithophane, and the software entails light transmittance in its code.

Regarding mono, mine are about the same thickness as colour ones, and whilst thickness indeed affects light transmission, filament colour (black for mono) will also reduce light transmittance.

If you can be more specific and share a summary of the procedure followed and some figures, it would be easier to provide some advice.
Also, I recommend starting a topic that addresses your doubts instead of using the announcement one.
