JPSM3DPrints using unlicensed models

I keep getting this email as a response. Did you receive it? I tried following their suggestion and ask how I could provide the information they wanted. It resulted in me never getting an answer and my claim being denied for ‘incorrect information’ without further details.:person_shrugging:

Hello,

Thank you for using our online Portal to report infringement. Before we process your notice, please verify your identity by providing a copy of your government-issued ID as well as any documentation proving ownership of the alleged copyright work.

We ask that you submit this documentation using SendSafely by visiting this link: SendSafely Dropzone. When prompted, please include your full name and the email address you used to contact us. After you upload your information, please respond directly to this email to confirm.

As part of Etsy’s commitment to protect member security, we use SendSafely to provide an encrypted, secure way to request and receive information. SendSafely is a platform that allows you to safely and easily send and request sensitive files and documents. Learn more about SendSafely here.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

No, they never asked me for ID. The first time they said the information I entered was incorrect. I figured out it was because I chose “other” and not “copyright infringement.”

The second time I submitted it I selected copyright but my auto fill didn’t put in my last name and I didn’t catch it. So the second one got denied. The third time I got all the information right and it got approved.

Ok thank you very much. Very odd. I really don’t think I’m doing anything different and I’m sure I’m filling out everything on the forms. We’ll see how this last claim goes, but maybe it’s just not meant to be lol

Did you give them the link to MW where your item is listed too?

Yes, this is what I gave them. Please let me know if you notice something different from your reports.

No, that’s pretty much what I said too.

I am 66 years old, and retired. It was back in the days of the COMMODORE 64 computer, in the early 80’s that it became evident that young people largely do not respect Copyrights, or the work of others. They discovered that if you have a Commodore 64, and a disk drive and a modem, YOU CAN RIP OFF LITERALLY ANYTHING, and there is little if anything, the owner of the design, or program, or “Sprite,” or graphic can do to stop you.

We have created a generation of young people who live by the credo, “SUCKS TO BE YOU!” You create something, and I find a way to replicate it without your knowledge or consent. Too bad! YOU LOSE! That is the attitude of MOST of America’s, and in fact the world’s youth today. WHY should I pay for something, if I can rip it off, and there are no REAL repercussions?

I own a cnc plasma table, and I draw and cut my own designs. I almost NEVER post the files online, because I know that the moment I do, that file becomes part of the public domain, simply because I do not have the resources to go after some moron in Pakistan or China who decided to copy it, and distribute it.

A Copyright is ONLY as powerful as your financial ability to chase dirt bags all around the world, to catch up to them, and break their legs. IOW, a Copyright is only a commodity of the HONEST.

Nice print! Where can I purchase a legit model of it? My Grandkids would enjoy it for Christmas.

I sent you a PM.
(25 chars requirement, met!)

Not a single creator was reimbursed for their financial losses, not a single legal case made against the criminals.

How can you ask for reimbursement of financial losses, if you don’t sell the model prints?

That is still the number one issue hosters try to avoid addressing.
One of the creators I buy from had one of her models unlawfully used and uploaded by someone else on Etsy.
The model was listed for just over $20US and for that you got all the rights to do with the file you might like.
By the time the original creator found it just over 4 months had passed, during which this Etsy model accumulated over 300 (paid) downloads.
So roughly $6000US for the thief, minus the commission fees.
Of course she then also spotted her model on several other hosting sites, including Thingiverse.
Some for free, some for money.

So how much is the damage in such a case?
You won’t get the money back the thief made with the help of the hoster…
You won’t be able to get the files back all those people obtained illegally without even knowing either, so there will always be someone re-uploading it somewhere…
Her sales for this model were quite steady for over 2 years.
With the stolen model circulating her sales for this model went down to near zero…
We, the creators can not win as the hosters refuse to establish any pre-emptive measures to at least make it harder to upload stolen models.
One day people will stop complaining and accept the reality that they don’t really have the means to protect their creative work.
As A Guy In Town pointed out - copyrights went down the drain when we went digital …

Well, I read it. And while I mostly agree with your POV, you also have to consider the other side of the coin. Making the reporting system so easy to use also makes it so easy to abuse.

You start getting trolls claiming your works is theirs, and they may not be successful, but they can disrupt you enough to push you out. This doesn’t mean the status quo is acceptable, but that some solutions can be monkey paw curses

Would also ask creators around here to check this one. One of my models is there and even after filling a copyright complaint, Etsy still denied the removal, even when the shop uses makerworld images. This has now been taken down.

As a side note, since the seller is a nice person and likes to sell what is not his, i am also giving away some info about him as retribuition:

His facebook store profile can be found on Etsy also, but it has no real info.

His LinkedIn, in case someone wants to hire a iOS developer that obviously can be trusted ().
Just by looking at the way he treats his stolen goods business on Etsy i would hire him without any doubt.

It’s good to see a real face behind the scam. Ahhh, happy new year Khaled Murshed :dizzy:

And another one.

i dont think its up to makerworld side there, like what do you want them to do ? send them a message to tell them to remove it from theyre store ? im not sure this will happen. I think the support for copyright is on the side of makerworld as if someone would upload it on makerworld… whatever is out of their website is probably not in their power to solve

I want them to abide for the rules they specifically wrote for those who entered the exclusivity program.
If there’s a protection, then it’s up to them to act and not us. We are only the penalized ones.

where did you see those rules ? the only thing i see is that it says they give support… to me support could be that they tell you to write to them as this is on theyr side like ETSY or others not makerworld part

Copyright Support

Another issue creators expressed concerns about is copyright infringement, particularly when it occurs outside of MakerWorld. Individual creators are vulnerable to such infrigement because they do not have all the legal tools to back them up. To address this, we’re introducing Copyright Support for Exclusive Models. The goal is to assist our creators in protecting their copyrights through legal means and to facilitate the removal of infringing models, both within and beyond our platform.

As this is a new service and we’re continually refining our processes, we’ll initially focus on creators with Exclusive Models that have earned significant popularity. Specifically, creators whose accounts have accumulated over 2,000 prints or those whose infringed Exclusive Models have received more than 500 prints can apply for up to 5 uses of this service per year.

By collaborating closely with creators and legal professionals, we aim to develop a system that effectively safeguards users’ copyrights and interests.

We have added a new category in our Customer Support section, where you can submit a request for Copyright Support.

No problem. Just to be clear, that information was also in the guidelines but as usual, they must have been changed them without informing the creators.
