Just wrecked a printbed sticker

I forgot to replace the bed before starting a print. I came back 30 minutes later to a paused machine (no notification), it said it failed to find the printbed and I realized my mistake and installed it and hit resume. I come back a few minutes later to find it digging the nozzle into the bed, scratching the shape of the first layer into the surface. I assume it leveled on the naked printbed heater and then tried to print at that height regardless of the installed bed.

What is the point of the printbed localization and scanning if it does not prevent this? Why run bed leveling if the chosen bed isn’t detected?

Ouch! :frowning:

There’s calls to move the print-bed type detection earlier on in the process. Sounds like this would have solved that too.
