In keychain maker, I want the image to only print on the outer surfaces of the keychain. When I slice the keychain, it’s printing the image on every single layer through the whole keychain, which seems like a huge waste of time and filament through all of the changes. I want to print the image on the first few layers, and then on the final layers so it shows on both sides, but just infill the middle of the keychain in between. Is there any way of either accomplishing this through the tool in MakerWorld, or through Fusion/Blender/Bambu Studio?
Not perfect, but you can copy your keychain in Bambu slicer and scale copy A to a height of 10% (xy untouched) and copy B to a height of 90%. Recoloring the copy B to a single color and place it below copy A (to do so, you have to merge both copies).
That’s a great idea! Merging them seems to just boolean merge them and it doesn’t lift the top copy, making the whole thing just a solid color. I tried switching up which copy I selected first, but the result is the same.
I did finally make it work by taking your idea of copy pasting, reducing height, changing filament. I then rotated everything 90 degrees. I could then move them manually into position and merge everything. It may not have been the most elegant, but it worked. Thanks for your help!
What happens if you enter a very low value for image thickness (e.g. 2x the layer height)?
As far as I can tell, that sets the thickness for the whole object, not just the image on the exterior. I could have sworn I saw a separate option for keychain thickness, but I don’t see it when I scroll anymore.
The thickness of the key fob can be found above.
My final solution for this is as follows:
- Create a .2mm thick double-sided keychain.
- Create a 2.8mm thick default keychain.
- Import both to the same project.
- Rotate each onto their side, and set the .2mm double-sided next to the 2.8mm copy.
- Merge
- Rotate back to base.
- Print!
