Kingroon filament doesn't work in AMS

So I purchased some Kingroon filament. For a 10 pack it came out to $12.78 a roll with taxes which for HS PETG is a great price IMO. It prints great with the bambu lab PETG settings too. The main issue that I keep running into is that at the end of the spool their filament is bent.

The main reason for this is that there is a hole in the spool spindle and they put the start of the roll in then wind the filament on to the spool. This leaves this 90 degree hook at the end of the spool which will get stuck every-single-time in the AMS feeding funnel. You can’t back it out or feed forward which means a full AMS breakdown.

Has anyone else run into this? With the price of filament having gone up pretty much everywhere across the board in the US that price for HS PETG just seemed great but I can’t keep taking my AMS apart and the reason I use an AMS isn’t so much multi-color as much as it is auto switch because my prints are large and I can’t babysit them.

Any ideas besides

  1. re-spooling every roll
  2. switching filament

Thanks

Not sure if it’s possible, maybe using a pair of scissors to reach up into the hole and cutting the 90 length off? Grabbing straws here…

Edit, just thought a sharp chisel might also work.

Do you have a photo?

Unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to cut enough of the bend off, at least I wasn’t able to on the last 2 rolls I tried on.

Maybe a file to take that section around the end off including some of the spool plastic itself.

This will create a new problem, it may become loose and the AMS unable to wind it back onto the spool. You can manually assist it back out.

Better that though than an AMS disassembly.

Yeah, unfortunately it won’t fix the issue of not having to babysit it. Thanks though.

This looks promising. Is this your design? If not have you used it? Thanks.
