Laser etching grids on Bambu build plates to correspond with Bambu Studio

This would assist with proper placement of the most used consumable material besides filament… and that’s glue.

Does this work on a coated plate like PEI?

If not then yoy are going to have to print a raft under the model.

Laser etched grid lines would probably be molded into the bottom surface of every print like the carbon fiber and other texture plates, though. For a lot of stuff that’s probably ok but for other things that first layer becomes the top or is visible on models in normal orientation.

As @MZip said, laser etching or other methods of marking the grid on the plate may leave grid lines on the model.

I have several rulers in the shop; it would be easy to relate a particular part of the plate to the Studio display. I could even make a special ruler with a strip of paper and a pencil. Or create reference marks on the edge of the plate.

However, I have never felt the need to find an exact plate position or to be stingy with glue.

Rather than buy a plate with a grid, buy a plate like the BIQU Glacier that does not need glue for most filaments.

When I do need glue, I usually coat the entire plate with glue because it will be used for several different prints before being washed. Granted, I use cheap craft glue sticks, not the expensive liquid glues. The semi-solid sticks can leave clumps and glue lines that mar the prints, so I dissolve them in 90% IPA to make my own liquid glue— a saturated solution that can be sprayed and spread evenly. This coats textured plates thoroughly without glue clumps and usually leaves a satin finish with a smooth plate.

Get a GECO plate, has grid lines as part of the design.
