Mine just arrived today and I’ve only just started experimenting with it but I’ve managed to do a design than wraps around almost the entire cylinder. It looks like Bambu Suite gives you the ability to do it.
How does Bambu Suite know how large of an area you can engrave?
Bird eyes measure the diameter of the object… it’s not perfect… sometimes it’s better you set it ![]()

I guess you are trying to stitch the edges of the images exactly together on the opposite side.
In theory (haven’t tested it yet), the width of the image should be equal to the measured diameter*pi.
Because it wraps the image on the cylinder, that should give you a reasonable good result.
When you engrave a cylinder, it will use the X-axis for the main scanning motion and slowly rotate your part.
A curved shape however will use the rotation axis as the main scanning motion, and does it’s stepovers in X, while adjusting the Z-height to compensate for the focus.
I am not a 100% sure if this is a correct statement. If you ask me the tool head is used for some measurement. It does it in complete darkness, so I guess its using the scanner on the laser to measure it.
I’ve found that I need to buy some mugs that aren’t tapered. They need to have a consistant diameter across the etch, the match the edge up. Ive also found that you should measure the diameter yourself, because the presets aren’t correct for the bambu mugs.
If anybody knows of some round metal mugs to use, let me know. Ones meant for etching would be a bonus.
Last thing is make sure you clean the cup first. I have a band around the mug I’m running now, that didnt laser clean. Im guessing its where it was held during manufacturing. Just a guess

Not bad. Alignment of the letters was way off. I aligned it to the photo, but should have just been left straight. Somehow the photo was skewed. I need to print some positioning blocks for the rotary unit too. The single positioning pin isnt so great. The rubber feet are so tall that the pin barely catches on the aluminum of the rotary base. The black strip is what was left over after covering the whole template with the pattern. I havnt checked, but Im guessing the preset diameter is wrong.
Have you done this as a curved shape or a cylinder? Looks like the variant with the misaligned letters was done in curved shape mode. And the second in cylinder mode. But that just a guess.
Could have been. Im not positive now. It was 2 different projects.
Anybody know if max dimensions of material has been posted? I want to look around for other stuff to etch. Maybe nice metal painted pens.
Did the printer use the X-axis for the main motion or the A-axis (rotary)?
