Layer 1 fails often

Why does the printer do this? We have tried a lot of things but lately it happens more often that the first layer fails during printing. Here is a picture of the camera as it currently looks and we do not know whether it works or not.

Material: PLA
Retraction: set to 50

I see these drops as the main problem, followed by the error message - the first layer is bad.
We unpacked and inserted a new filament today and these drops still appear

Some options:

  • Wet filament
  • Clean buildplate (IPA)
  • Use adhesives like 3DLAC
  • Lower print speed first layer

Dry and recalibrate the filament, including the K-value (dynamic flow).

In my experience wet filament doesn’t cause first layer adhesion problems as much as a dirty/oily build plate. Hot water and dish soap wash or recently I’ve been trying out windex with good success.

we ALWAYS clean before printing - but thank you

Sometimes if I am having first layer issues Aqua net hairspray works great.
