Layer problem

Anyone have any idea why my first layer is getting messed up. Any help is appreciated thank you

I have had this before, in my case the face for some reason wasn’t perfectly laying flat on the plate when slicing.
Half of the bottom layer was perfect and half was scarred

How did you fix the problem

It prints the first half good but where it stops to change to the colored letters is where it doesn’t sit after that

Did you try what I suggested? The model is clearly not siting flat to the build plate.

Tried the auto orient it seems to be putting it in the same face I did. Trying a test print now. When I click f to select the face this is what the top looks like

Same thing happened. I think it has something to do with me adding the lettering. I printed the bottom of the boxes and they came out great.

If you preview the first layer of gcode. (Right slider all the way down then use the bottom slider to scroll through the layer gcode) Does it preview the full bottom layer?

So this is what it has for later one which is only half of what it should be. This is the half that prints good. I don’t understand what I did to make it not complete

Looks like the face is not actually flat. Maybe you can share the step file, or the process you followed to create it

im trying to share the file but i cant figure out how i think its the wrong extension

https://www.printables.com/model/710926-box-lid/files i saved it here if this works

I tried to import this file into Fusion360. Got it converted into solid bodies. If I clicked on any body it crashed. IDK! I dont have a full version of F360.

I also tried to import it to meshmixer. It would not even try to import it. Just gave me an error could not import.

I think the problem is I didn’t make the text a negative part because I wanted it a different color. When I make it a negative part I can lay it flat on that face but I can’t color it then

Hello,
As you can see om your picture the printer is printing the first layer (green + letters) and then change to layer 2. Move the the slicer on the right side of the slice page to layer 2 and you will see that the printer print layer 2 over you letters or even layer 3.

Did you add the text and then flip the model, I have found when I do that I can’t get the text to be flat.

The trick is to add the text from the bottom with the text rotated 180 degrees.

Delete the text, use the lay on face tool to get the bottom to lay flat on the build plate (Don’t skip this step) and Slice again to ensure the first layer is whole when sliced.

Create the text Thickness .1, Angle of 180 because it will be upside down and embedded Depth 1.0 will work but will give 4 layers of the text if you want 3 layers use 3 times the layer height which is .84

Add the text to the model from the bottom (Use the Mouse to move the view so that you are looking at the model from under the build plate) if you did not set the angle to 180 the text will be upside down.

After adding your first text object slice to verify that it worked correctly (the entire first layer should lay flat on the build plate) and if so add the remaining text objects. Slice again and verify it is still correct.

I was trying this technique a few more times and found that adding the first text object worked consistently for me but adding the second text object was not working every time, the text would just cause the surface to lift from the bed and not slice correctly. I did get it to work occasionally but I have not yet found a way to get it to work consistently.

I found a better way that does seem to be reliable, create the text objects from under the build plate as I mentioned previously except instead of Thickness .1 use the thickness that you want the text to be for example 3 layers at .28mm would be .84 the embedded depth can be let at 0 use 180 for the angle (Ctrl 2 is a shortcut to view from under the build plate)
Now use the split to objects to separate the text into separate objects from the cover:
In the objects section right click on the main object that has the text applied and select split to objects. You should now be able to move the cover object and the text objects separately, position the text objects where you want them on the cover and then select the cover object and text and use the assemble function this will result in the Objects being assembled all flat to the build plate and when sliced I get exactly 3 layers of text using .84 for the Thickness.
I created video demonstrating this method and posted it to Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21ULxfe6XkI
