Im printing 2 identical models on the same plate, and the left most one keeps failing half way through! ive tried 4 times now and even moved their position on the plate - but the left one keeps failing.
am I going mad?! Is this just chance or could there be another reason for this? As always there are obviously lots of variables at play, but I was wondering if there was anything inherent in anything that would make something on the left more prone to failing?!
That’s such a specific problem, so we definitely need more information:
What are you actually trying to print? You can upload the 3MF file here to the forum. Settings, support, are you using a brim, etc., etc.

What kind of print plate do you use? What filament do you use?
Yes, there are many reasons why this can happen. From incorrect settings to improper support or infill, to the choice of print plate, to loose screws.
That’s why you need to post more specific information so people can help you in a targeted way. Include details about the surrounding circumstances as well: Is cold air coming in specifically on that side because a window is open? Do you clean your printer’s platen? Etc., etc.
Please start by sending the photos and the 3mf file - that would take care of 90% of the troubleshooting.
Sorry, ive been really vague. I should probably have done more investigation before posting really - and taken a photo of the issue.
By failing I mean, id just come back to the print and the left object would be a mess of filament half way up.
I used to be able to print 2 just fine. Ive got a feeling it might be something to the humid/hot weather (im trying to try the PLA currently). Im just surprised how its just the left one that would fail and not the right.
Im printing one on its own now and it’s workin just fine. Ill dry the filament a bit longer and see if anything improves
So, without getting too deep into troubleshooting right now, I can already tell you that your inital layer of support is too small and the object is practically asking to fail. Keep in mind: The taller the object is, the less stable the whole structure becomes. More support wouldn’t hurt, but it’s not a must.
It’s also possible that you’re using an infill that intersects with itself and is therefore unsuitable, causing it to constantly hammer against your object. Like grid, cubic, …
Unfortunately, you didn’t mention that in your post what you use?
Why does this always happen on one side? Because the nozzle is probably moving from one object to another and either hits it - or stringing - and then the object fails. So either your filament is stringing, your infill is hitting the object hard, or you need to optimize settings like the inital layer of support and speed.
In rare cases, it could also be due to loose screws or insufficient belt tension, but I don’t think that’s the case here.
