Let the fun begin!

Just entered the 3D printing world starting today with my X1C. So far, so good! Doing my first print as I type this. A poop chute. Lol. Looking forward to much more printing and learning once the rest of my order (filaments, spares, etc.) gets here.

Pics because why not? Lol.

Welcome to the forum and the world of 3D printing! Set aside some time before you go to bed tonight to order hundreds of rolls of filament, that’s usually step two of the addiction.

It was/is a toss up between the X1C I got, and the new Qidi Plus 4. The Qidi being too new and needs time to iron the bugs out in my opinion. Or at least that’s my newb thoughts on it. Lol.

Time to order more filament… I’ve got a feeling I’ll be using a lot!

I have 4 or 6 rolls on order, but they’ve not arrived yet… I’m about to place another order after seeing how much gets used in some of the prints. Lol

Did you not take out two pieces of foams at the bottom of the printer (see the first photo) or were they reflections of something else?

I removed them after the calibration. Lol. Good catch.

Thank you for all the info and the link! I’ve only done 2 prints so far, one being the poop chute, and then the simple 3min scraper. Trying to make the desiccant boxes for the AMS, but the spool of filament seems to be getting tangled a ton. I’m trying for the second time now even though I’ve had to untangle it twice already. Any tips?

As for cleaning the build plate, I’ve washed it before first print, then flipped it for the second, then washed with dawn again before this third print. I’ve got spares coming so I can swap and keep them clean as from my reading, that is a major cause of a bunch of issues I’ve seen.

I’ve also got a filament dryer, a few lbs of desiccant, and some other tools on the way for the future. I need to order a ton more filament though. Lol.

As for troubleshooting, that’s my bread and butter due to my career working with small aperture satellite terminals, networking, and servers. But that is amazing advice, so thank you again.

What do you mean by AI covers?

Totally looking forward to this whole experience!

Some people, like “Delta prints” and a bunch of people who are now copying them, use artificially generated images. They feed in a render of the print, and the AI makes a cover image for the model. They’re misleading in the eyes of many here in the forum, as the differences between the renderings and actual models are rather plentiful. Somehow these ai photos and models do well even though they’re extraordinarily simple. One such model is a literal tray. Yes, a tray with a small lip. And that somehow has a ton of downloads. Beats me :person_shrugging:

Amazon also sells quality filament, just be sure what you order comes on a plastic reel, or order unreeled, but if you do order on cardboard, spool it off onto a plastic or Bambu reel. That cardboard just eats up the rubber rollers in the AMS unit, and spreads cardboard dust all over. Bambu has free reels you can print to use with other brands of filament.
I have a P1S, but I see an X1C in my very near future.
This forum is just great for unanswered questions, sometimes it is hard to find answers in the Wiki.

Make sure to remove the foam

I just purchased my P1S and made two items so far, no issues. Question (sorry it is so stupid): You say to “wash beds regularly”. How? And, thanks.

Dishwashing liquid and water.

Use dish washing liquid detergent that is good at removing oils and grease. Dawn or Fairy are popular brands. These actually surround the oil molecules so that a thorough rinse can carry them off. Avoid anything that claims to be kind to skin, these have moisturizers that prevent adhesion.

Gentle scrubbing with a clean wash cloth or a small nylon brush can help, especially on textured plates.

Dry with a clean towel. Some use a paper towel. I use old bath towels that have been washed without fabric softener.

Handle the plate by the edges only and do not touch the surface.

You should not need to clean the plate for every print. Wash the plate if you have touched it, or when the glue buildup gets ugly, or if you start to have adhesion issues.

I concentrate my use on one side at a time. If I want to switch sides, it must be washed first - I probably touched it while flexing the plate to remove a print.

Thank you to everyone. I’m loving the printer! It’s been working perfectly so far and I’ve printed a bunch. Mostly little upgrades like riser, poop chute, AMS buttons, accessories box, etc.

Great advice; thanks for the fast reply. I’ve only printed 2 pieces so far so I guess I’m OK for a while anyhow before needing to clean.
