Recently I was having a problem with a mid print when the AMS did not choose a second spool when the first spool ran out of filament. THE problem being the filament wasn’t the Bambu filament even though it was the same color and type [PLA]. The filament label needs be exactly the same… So I was told to “Lie to my Computer.”
After some soul searching considering the moral implications I recognized I had fallen into the oldest hazard in computer programming. The Computer only does what you code it to do, not what you imply it should do. [Unless you are using a spell checker…another topic for later]
Anyway I made some Tags that you stick on the side of your new spools to insure that the AMS reads them exactly the same as you intend. You remove the old tags from the Bambu and stick [glue, tape, etc.] the old tags to the Liar’s Tag [you make them in pairs. one for each side.]
Couple of technical issues: 1. Bambu spools are 200 mm in diameter. 2. the Bambu [Chips] Tags on the refills centers around 47 mm ± 5 mm from the top. 3. the Liar’s Tag [55 mm x 22.4 mm x 1 mm] is mounted from the outer rim pointed toward the center of the spool.
On current Flashforge and other 200 mm spools the clips fit nicely within the name plate section of the spool. [see image] I need to test them on the out side of my MT spare Bambu spools to check the AMS clearance.
Whether you use other 200 mm spools or Bambu spool with other filaments with or with out Bambu chips the Liars Tag will help standardize the naming in your filament
