I uploaded a model last night and used the Standard Digital File License. My model is basically a window frame with slots that holds two flat panels to create a layered LED light box that looks like a window pane. You can attach fairy lights, LED tape, or use tea lights to illuminate. In my description I welcome designers who want to create different scenes to put in the frame and upload those as their own, but they would have to refer back to my model for someone to print the frame itself. I was thinking it would be a win-win, My frame is protected and gets download/prints, but designers can create and upload their own panels as well for points. Hope I am explaining this right. They could upload their design as a separate profile within my model, but then they don’t get model points or boosts, so I wanted to give them the opportunity to post panels on their own.
Is there a better way to set that up, where you only want part of your model protected? I certainly won’t report anyone who uploads their own panel designs. Does that suffice?
Sounds like you need to split the frame and the panel into two different models, that way you can apply your license differently for each. Then users can just remix the panel and then link back to the frame.
They cannot then prevent the unlimited duplication of their entire model.
However, you always have the option of adding your own licence conditions in the text of the model or as a separate PDF to determine what may be done with parts of your model and when. There should be no objection to initially choosing the standard digital file licence and then pointing out that parts of your model are excluded. Only mark the parts of the model clearly and unambiguously which licence or provisions apply to what.
The way you did it is perfectly correct IMO. And you give the dimensions of the scene object in your description. Your license is preventing users to make remixes of your scenes but nothing is preventing them to create their own from scratch based on the given dimensions. It’s totally fine, plus, you explicitly tell people that they could create their own scene.
