Lithophane Lighting

The time of year is coming again where I get hit up to make lithophanes for family, and sell them to unsuspecting…er I mean co-workers and friends.

I have been using the BL light panel that was introduced with the color lithophane kit thing. I see there’s a new kit for backlighting.

Anyone used ths and can offer a comparison? They’re cheaper but if they’re no good doesn’t matter the cost.

thanks

Huh, didn’t notice they have a new kit. Looks similar, but the biggest differences is that it has individual smaller 48 x 144 panels that you can connect together and combine to the size you want/need. The 8.99 price is probably because that kit comes with 2 panes which are sized 96 x 144, which is smaller than the original of 108 x 144. They also sell it in a 4 panel kit for 14.99.

I just ordered two of each kit for the lithophane that I made my sister for her birthday (I had no idea what kit to buy and was too lazy to try and figure it out). As it happened I needed two of the “large” kits for my box. The issues is that they don’t give you enough connection cables to connect two or more kits together (or you can have multiple USB plugs for one frame) so I had to rob one from the “smaller” kit.

My favorite part is the dimer function! I made a Lithophane for my wife and used a Temu or Amazon led light strip and there is no way to dim it. I had to keep cutting sections of the strip off to get the light to a bearable level. It was hard to be in the same room with when it was 2 meters of bright white LEDs shinning in my face like a searchlight.

Thanks for the heads up. Brightness won’t be an issue as the original light wasn’t all that bright. I think I’ll keep to using what I know. I don’t need any extra complexity’s. For me it’d be no problem, but some of the people who ask for them it may be.
