Little Boxes

I’ve had an X1 Carbon for about 2 months now and love it. Previously, I had an Ender 3, which was great to learn on, but I spent more time trouble shooting it than printing with it. After printing upgrades for the AMS (desiccant boxes). I started printing Gridfinity items. I’m pretty sure my printer can only print squares. After printing standard base plates, I began customizing spacing on the sides of the grids so they fit snuggly in drawers. I had stepped into the blackhole of Gridfinity and began searching for custom boxes designed by others and designing my own when needed. I am determined at this point to find all the Gridfinity Stones before Thanos does. The printer seems to run non-stop as do my filament orders. My wife often comes in and asks, “Are you printing more little boxes?”

“Little Boxes…” Did you ever watch Weeds on HBO around 2005? I cannot get that theme song out my head. But if I can get it into your head, maybe it will leave mine. The theme song is called “Little Boxes” and was originally written by Malvina Reynolds in 1962. The original “boxes” referred to suburban tract homes. I made one edit to the lyrics below to insert “printbed”, but it is otherwise original and why it is now my Gridfinity theme song. I need to make Home Assistant play this on Alexa when my printer starts printing…

Little boxes on the printbed (orig. hillside)
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky
Little boxes on the printbed (orig. hillside)
Little boxes all the same
There’s a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same

And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there’s doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same

And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same

And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same
There’s a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same

By the way, this is my first post, but I have been reading the forum posts over the past couple months. Thank you to all the designers and those active in the forums. It’s been a great experience for me so far.

Little boxes, little boxes…
