Load Filament Option

I would like to see a Load Filament Option when Loading Filament from the Spool Holder and not through the AMS.

There is an Unload Option but when loading the Filament it is currently necessary to heat up the nozzle an manually moving the extruder.

I also own an Prusa MK3S+ and Loading Filament there is really intuitive.

The Filament Sensor there can be used to start the loading process.

When the nozzle is already heated because filament was unloaded before, the sensor detect that filament is inserted and will start to extrude some filament.

After that it asks if the filament that is extruded has the right color. If you choose yes the loading is completed. If you choose no the same amount is extruded and it asks again if it’s the right color.

If the nozzle is not heated up when filament is inserted, it asks which filament should be loaded (e. g. PLA / PETG / ABS etc.) and has temperatur presets for those filaments and will heat up the nozzle. When it’s heated up it will start to extrude filament like i described above.

So far I only saw these ok Prusa Printers and I don’t know why. It should be possible to implement this in the software.

Would be great to see a feature like that in the Bambu 3D Printers.

Yes, I mentioned this in a couple of my posts as well.

Each press of the load / unload button should advance / retract the filament by the length of the filament path + a little.

Would also be nice if the machine can prompt for the hotend temperature based on material type with a single press and also beep when it has completed the load / unload.

This is not a prusa and it’s working another way… when you put the fillament into the printer until the unload Button is available. Filament ist ready to print and you bcan begin a print job.
It’s working like the AMS. The AMS is loading, when you start the print Job.

When you use the AMS it automatically loads the Filament.
You also can automatically unload the Filament when using the AMS.

When you use the spool holder ir is possible to automatically unload the Filament but loading it involves a few steps.

I think it wouldn’t be hard to implement a load function that would make it a bit easier for beginners and it would look more refined.

I think that there are several people who are missing such are feature in this otherwise refinded printer.

The printer would be even more perfect with it.

However, how much I miss the manual wheel that pushes the filament into the hotend!!
:expressionless:

I’ve never had to do what you say to manually load filament. I press the unload button. Remove the filament, feed in the new filament until it stops. Resume happy printing. I now have an AMS, but I printed for about 2 weeks without doing the above method switching between colors and types with no issues.

So it automatically extrudes filament when you insert it?
Is the nozzle already heated up in this case?

@vincentw56 Exactly, this is my experience as well. Before every Print it Extruder automaticly

Yep, when you start a print it does that.
But first you would habe to load the filament.

on the left side of the print head you can reach a bit and the wheel is there. Not ideal but I have used it when i thought I had a clog.

The nozzle is heated from when you do the unload. But it doesn’t matter much because I am not pushing all the way to the nozzle, just to the extruder.

I have been working with the X1 Carbon and AMS since I received it on Wednesday. Why does the AMS have to be disconnected to use the external spool? Also why is there no Y adapter to feed the external filament? As far as I can tell, you have to disconnect a cable to the AMS and remove the bowden after the buffer

Of all the features that could be added this one isn’t close to the top of my list.

You poke filament into the printer as far as it will go, press the extruder down button once so it grips. The next print you start will do the rest.

No dude, it would be better to be able to select the length instead of wasting filament by having it push twice as much through if it’s not quite to the nozzle yet due to some unforseen circumstances… I like to be able to type a distance in to push or retract the filament, not some arbitrary number based on a path that could vary.

I wish everyone would stop comparing this magnificent device to a Prusa. I mean really? It’s not another Prusa. Just because they base their slicer of of Prusa didn’t mean it’s going to be anything like a Prusa. Get over it, and deal with how this printer works. Other printers, say an Ender are a pain in the butt to load with having to grab the filament with one hand and then squeeze the extruder handle with another and hope it goes on without hitting something, and then and only then can you get it going to the nozzle… Much more of a pain the wazoo than this wonderful, not a damn Prusa, masterpiece by Bambu Labs!!

I also would like this option added. it should be something very simple to add and in terms of ux I think it’s a win to have a load filament action. It’s clearer for new users. And it’s an action that everyone needs to do at some point.

Strong +1 from my side

Once I realized I just had to push the filament in until it stopped, it was a piece of cake. No filament wasted.

Why not compare? The Prusa does some things better.

Because it’s a different category of equipment? Prusa is an old construction improved over the years, Bambu is new, fresh, modern. Didn’t have years to refine. You have to give them time.
