Trying to load filament into slot 1 on AMS and the spool just spins in reverse. I was originally trying to load the spool into slot 2 but the AMS acted like I wanted to put it in slot 1, with the rollers in spot 1 spinning with no spool in there. Looking for some help.
I do not have an X2, but from your description, there may be an error message as well? Failed to pull back filament or broken filament? If not on the printer, in Bambu Handy?
With your prior print having been from slot 1?
Either way, it may be worth checking the filament path from the print head (filament sensor!) through the buffer, AMS hub to the feeder.
Good point! I had broken filament in the AMS before, that wasn’t directly obvious and manifested in weird behaviour. If there is a piece of loose filament that triggers the filament sensor in the AMS filament hub, then the AMS will always try to unload the filament in slot 1 before it loads filament from another slot.
Not sure how relevant this is but I unloaded all filaments (slots 3&4) which showed ? above each of the slots and slot 1 still showed PLA even though there was no spool loaded.
With spools unloaded, you can unplug the ptfe’s in the ams at the hub and manually pass some filament through them.
With the Hub in the AMS, it’ll only work in a single location. If it doesn’t, theres probably broken filament jammed insides.
For the other PTFE’s and buffer, just unplug the ptfe at the ams and print head and pass some filament through manually.
This also works on the print head if you use the display to extrude.
From your description, it does show the symptoms (but not the error message) of a piece of filament stuck in slot 1 of the AMS hub.
Thank you, does the fact that it shows a spool in slot 1 when there is nothing there mean anything? Is there a sensor that tells it something is sitting there?
I have fixed this, several pieces of filament found in that line. Some inexpensive clear filament. Do you have a suggestion for a quality brand of clear. Thanks to both of you for your help! Everything is loading fine now.
Clear PLA is tricky. I have used Giantarm in the past but it turns brittle quickly with moisture uptake and looses its softeners.
I am currently experimenting with the Bambu range. Looking good so far, but no long term experience yet. I do however tend to dry all my filament straight out of the bag.
With the Giantarm, I could also spot a need to dry by the opaque marks in the wound spool. The more marks, the more moisture, the more brittle.
If that translates over to Bambu, I fear I may need to dry it around every 2 weeks even when stored in the AMS2…

If you want PETG, I have tested a lot of different brands, but there are almost none that sell clear HF PETG. I now have settled on Creality Hyper PETG. If you want crystal clear objects, you need to print very slow anyway, so non-HF PETG should do fine. I was very happy with regular Sunlu PETG, not so much with their HS matte PETG. I haven’t tested the new PETG 2.0, and I haven’t looked yet, if they sell it in transparent.
So my recommendation:
For fast cloudy / translucent prints: Creality Hyper PETV
for crystal clear prints; Sunlu regular PETG
