Loading low temp fillament after high temp one?

Hi,

Imagine the scenario.

  • Using an external spool holder, I load PC filament.
  • I print with it.
  • Unload it.
  • Turn off machine.
  • Now I want to load PLA
  • Will loading heat the nozzle to those 290 degrees to be able to push out old PC filament, or will it use the PLA temps?

If it uses PLA temps. What is the correct way to go about it?

The printer should remember even after a power off which filament was loaded last and heat the nozzle to the right temp to purge it.

As I sometimes change nozzles between prints to avoid a situation where a removed nozzle won’t be purged at right temp, I try to always load PLA just after my high temp filament print to avoid the issue but other than this case going from PC to PLA on same nozzle shouldn’t be a concern.

I have never seen the filament loading/unloading process use anything other than a 250°C nozzle temperature. Also never had a problem loading/unloading PLA, PLA-CF, PETG, TPU 95A, ASA, PC, or PA.

I believe it’s hardcoded to 250 for all-scenarios, unless you alter the machine start gcode. (For A1, at least)

It has purged ABS, ASA, CFPETG, TPU, etc without issue. 250 plus a fully-torqued extruder motor can probably clear anything out except PEEK. It might not flow lovingly but you dont need it to, you just need it outta there.
