Buying a bambu A1 series printer next week with AMS system
The biggest part for me is figuring out which one to get based on operating spaces needed
Have enough width for both A1 and mini with AMS system
Just deciding on space for depth for moving plate
I have 710mm depth, depends on which site I visit give different depths from 680 to 700mm
Has anyone got a A1 with AMS system in tight area and what depth did you need. Sorry for newbie questions as new to all this . I’m getting a filement dryer too as seems good idea
I was going to get A1 mini with AMS system as safe bet for size but trying to see if I can fit A1 printer . I won’t be big user of printer . mostly diy projects and drone parts and other bits I make over time. The mini has 180mm operating plate and A1 256 mm . I keep bouncing back and forth between the two . Thanks
Also keep in mind that if the depth isn’t sufficient, you can rotate the printer 90° if necessary, even though it’s a bit more inconvenient.
Most importantly, though, you need to choose the printer that you actually need, and this will help you do that: There’s no point in buying a smaller printer if you end up realizing that it doesn’t meet your needs.
Take a cardboard box and fold it to the dimensions of an A1 and an A1 mini. Run around the house putting objects in the box, and you’ll get a feel for which size works best. This has helped about 95% of people decide which one to choose. If you just look at the number, it’s extremely easy to misjudge it.
Alternative: Go to MakerWorld, filter by “A1” and “A1 mini” respectively, and see what you can print.
personally i would go a1 if you dont have another largish printer, as sometimes there are things that are long and hard to split and glue, such as printed springs for talon mags(nerf) and longer nerf mags. also some aesthtic models can be annoying to glue
Was looking at a top mount bracket for A1. I have enough space to have side by side but after I make a top mount bracket. I have equipment to left and right so can fit bambu printer in between. I have 770mm space in width and 760mm in depth so just have enough space for safety. I have lots of space for A1 mini but trying for A1 if I can . I look more today to take more measurements or make a template like was said for space needed. But top mount bracket for ams system will be a must to have.thanks

I take few more measurements over weekend to double check and want to order early next week. This be one and only 3d printer I buy to want to get right. I like the A1 mini but looking for A1 plate size as can make bigger items if needed . don’t want to be restricted.thanks
The A1 is a good printer. Just a word of caution. It has had problems the past year with a part overheating on the power board. There is a thread about it on this forum.
The A1’s manufactured now have a new board. We know that Bambu did not recall any A1 printers for this, so A1’s that were already in stock will have the old boards with the faulty component. How many are still left in stock, if any, I don’t know…
Thanks for info. buying direct from bambu website , do you think if buying direct from bambu will have new board , was looking at mini too. main difference i see is plate on A1 is 256mm and on mini is 180mm . be new to this 3d printing and till reserching and learning from others like yourself to make right choice, i won’t be heavy user of 3d printer, causual user for diy projects and bits for my dji drones and anything needed . i can fit either of the printers in a space i have on my working home office desk between normal printer and my pc setup. have 780mm in width and 760-770mm in depth so can fit either. is there a way to find out if new board on the bumbu A1 printers bambu seling on there own website , surely the selling the updated version , i see if they answer me or not
got this from bambu saying all A1 Printers bought direct from bambu website has new updated ac power board .
Yes, if you purchase a new Bambu Lab A1 today from the official website, it will come with the updated components.

Thanks for help and advice. I’m aiming at getting A1 combo next week but still haven’t ruled out mini .but like option to print bigger. If I get A1 combo which so far looks like I am .I setup the A1 without the ams system first and after some practice I make the top mount bracket with stabilizers and mount on top to save space. The poop tray and few other bits and some cable management bits . Thanks for all the help and advice
From what I’ve seen about the AMS being mounted on top of the printer, they do sway quite a bit then the printer is going. This was quite a bit ago and they may have improved the mounting now.
Just remember to recalibrate the printer when you put the AMS on top. This is just a function that it will do automatically then you select it.
thanks for info, think i saw a new design where there is stablelizers at base attached , i first see how i get on with ams system before attaching to top frame. theres also a addon on to allow different filement brands of pla filement to ams system. i see amazon have filement but see mixed reviews . most projects i could make in mini but some be tight so A1 be better as more bigger size options , i order next monday all going well, take 5 to 7 working days to get direct from bambu according to there website,
My A1 and the AMS Lite fit on a table top measuring 30 “ wide x 24” deep. The AMS Lite is on the left; I didn’t want to mount it on top of the A1 because I have display shelves on the wall above the A1. Works just fine for me.
I try it out first but if all good.i leave it .I could also do wall mount but think I won’t other . I order A1 with AMS system,at least I picked which printer,then get use to it . thanks
