Looking for a parametric desk tray / drop-in insert generator (with top lip)

I’m brand new to 3D printing and all I can say is wow! So far I’ve printed almost exclusively from MakerWorld. The closest thing to custom I’ve done is using Gridfinity Parametric Model Makers.

I have a rectangular hole in my desk and want to make a drop-in tray that fits it. It would need have a lip around the top so it doesn’t fall through into the drawer below.

Does anyone know of a parametric model maker / generator on MakerWorld (or elsewhere) that can create a rectangular tray with a top lip/flange? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Depending on how fancy you want to get you can make this with a couple primates and a negative part in Bambu Studio.

Having said that, your best option is to take a little time to learn a 3d modeling software like Onshape or Fusion360 so then you can model and print all the things.

Thank you! I will play with a file I have now it just needs a bottom, was a pass thru design. I’m still attempting to learn Fusion 360 and it is slow going, I’m a slow learner

PM me. Since you said you are learning Fusion, if you send me the measurements and a photo of the hole, I will draw one for you parametrically in Fusion and send it to you. Then you can play with it.

Tinkercad is a great option for someone who does not need extensive CAD capabilities. It is easy to get started, and seems to be a perfect starting point for a model like you need.

I may try it. I had a couple of people tell me they used to recommend starting with tinkercad but now they recommend just spend that time learning fusion…

No doubt, Fusion is a much more powerful tool but has a correspondingly greater learning curve. As for me, I only do simple things and so far, Tinkercad has been more than adequate. Also, they keep making Tinker more powerful with new tools so for many of us, it is a more practical solution. Hope it all works out

Honestly it’s probably a better fit for me also, I’m going keep trying Fusion when I have time. But we shall see. :upside_down_face:
